Celebrating distinctiveness in branding, and in life
In our most recent blog our Head of Design, Jon, discusses how he’s dealt with what makes him distinct, and how it influences the way he approaches the work of visual identity.
In a world where trends make everything look similar, we focus on uncovering and amplifying what makes each brand unique. Whether it's Passenger's murmuration-inspired graphics or Symbio's custom illustrations, we believe in creating identities that truly stand out.
What makes your brand different?

I love this article Jon Lockhart.
My favourite line is "Our differences are our superpowers. Let’s embrace them."
And so we should. I was looking through George's school work the other day and came across a self portrait entitled: 'What makes me unique?' I was so proud to see that as young as 6 we're encouraging kids to embrace and celebrate their uniqueness. Thanks for sharing 💪
The Autumnal Feed Begins🍂
Creating a coherent and visually pleasing feed is essential. Aesthetics are everything, and to be honest, I’m here for it!
But of course, there’s more to it:
🔸 A cohesive feed grabs attention and keeps people scrolling.
🔸 Consistent colors and themes build a strong brand identity.
🔸 Seasonal vibes, like an autumnal theme, evoke emotions and nostalgia.
🔸 A visually appealing feed encourages deeper engagement and connection.
🔸 First impressions count—make it memorable with a stunning aesthetic.

How to rebrand a public speaker?
I absolutely love re-branding. It's a combination of being strategic and having an eye for visuals.
When Anna Sjöström asked for an all-in branding shoot, I knew that this would be a very fun project. I am giving her visual brand a total make-over.
1. In the brand call, I understood that Anna has a strong personality, meaning the branding will be bold.
2. In the color-analysis, I saw that she is a warm autumn. Meaning she fits with soft warm colors (colors that are yellow-based)
3. During the styling, we found multiple bold business outfits that fit her undertone and her brand colors.
4. Yesterday we had the first part of the all-in branding package, which was in the studio.
The results so far are promising 🤗 Who's excited?
P.s. what do you think of the styling?
I still have 1 spot left for June! Reach out now if you want to shoot before the summer.
Selecting Colors for Your Brand 🎨
The color palette that you select for brand identity is not merely to increase visual appeal, it serves the task of inducing an intended emotional response and associating better with your audience.
Here’s why it matters:
✨Brand Identity: Your brand colors are the first thing that anyone will notice your brand. They establish the brand perception.
✨Establishing an emotional impact – using certain colors help to evoke particular emotions (blue for trust, red for energy and green for balance). How do you want your audience to feel?
✨ Consistency: Use the same colors no matter where you appear. Pronunciation helps to enforce recognition and trust.

Why did I choose my branding colours? 🤔
When I launched Creative ID over two decades ago, I chose a combination of orange and grey for our branding - and I’m delighted that this palette has stood the test of time, and still represents my team of designers and marketers.
Orange reminds me of vibrancy, creativity, and joyousness - a colour that is symbolic in a lot of cultures, and that conveys that spark of innovation and new ideas.
The tone of grey on the other hand was chosen as a partner colour to soften the palette, and balance out the pair. It feels chic and neutral, to embody the professionalism of what we do, while not being as serious or stark as black. The two hues complement one another, and together they tell the story of what we do: creative work for professional clients.

Crucial Questions to Consider Before Committing to Your Brand Colour
I have worked with alot of clients especially these past few days and I can tell you for a fact that
Many people really don't know what brand color is, they just want to put something out there.
Even though I try to make some people see the reason why they need to take their time to pick their color, they aren't even concerned
See, when choosing a brand color, consider asking yourself this questions:
🟦 What feelings do I want people to have when they see my brand?
🟦 Does this color match my brand's personality and values?
🟦 Is this color unique enough to stand out in my industry?
🟦 Will my target audience like this color?
🟦 Is this color appropriate for the cultures of my target markets?
🟦 Can this color be used consistently and effectively everywhere in my brand?
🟦 Will this color stay relevant and timeless for our brand in the future?
With this type of question, choosing a brand color won't be an issue.
I hope this helps someone who is still struggling with choosing their brand color

Ever noticed how you immediately can think of a list of brands when you are given a certain color?
Your brand colors are one of the first things people notice when they encounter your brand— and people will have feelings and make assumptions about your brand based on the color and style you choose.
This is how they will ultimately associate with you.
So it’s important to choose colors that are not only visually appealing, but that also best reflect the personality of your brand.

Holi the festival of colors - one of the most unique identifiers of our culture and country itself. Colors evoke such strong emotions in all of us and yet we tend to underestimate the role they can play in a brand's journey.
Successful brands have used colors effectively to their advantage. Here are a few tips how this can be done -
1. **Understand Color Psychology**: Different colors evoke different emotions and perceptions. Choose colors that align with your brand's personality and message. For example, blue signifies trust and reliability, while yellow conveys energy and optimism. Many brands choose red when they want to signify dynamism and passion (Look at our logo!)
2. **Consider Cultural Context**: Colors may have different meanings in various cultures. Ensure your color choices resonate positively across your target audience and regions. In our own experience - without naming the brand - color green in the brand packaging helped crack resonance with certain communities instantly.
3. **Create a Distinct Palette**: Develop a unique color palette that sets your brand apart. Avoid using generic or overused colors to maintain uniqueness and brand identity. This is one of the most under-used rules of using colors - think Vi, think Reds.
4. **Maintain Consistency**: Once you've selected your brand colors, use them consistently across all touchpoints including logos, websites, packaging, and marketing materials. Consistency builds brand recognition and trust.
5. **Be Bold, but Not Overbearing**: Don't be afraid to use bold or unconventional colors, but ensure they align with your brand's identity and appeal to your target audience. A financial client of ours uses Teal very effectively to convey distinction and yet, relatability.
6. **Tell a Story with Color**: Use colors to convey your brand's narrative or values. For example, eco-friendly brands often incorporate shades of green to signify sustainability.
