Happy New Year from Scottish Leisure Network Group committee, to close a great year, and in anticipation of a brilliant 2025 here are some wise words from our chair Vicki Kennedy. “This year been one of growth and achievement for the committee. As Chair of our group, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside an exceptional team of volunteers culminating in our most successful conference to date-a true testament to our collective vision and dedication and commitment from our members to continue to learn and grow. The conference showcased groundbreaking ideas, fostered valuable connections, and solidified our organisation’s reputation for being at the heart of the Scottish leisure industry. It was fantastic for us to recognise this some 21 years on with a ‘Special Achievement Award’ to the group’s founder and President Bobby Kerr as he retired from West Dumbartonshire Leisure Trust. Personally, this year also brought change as I transitioned to a new role, marking an exciting new chapter in my career. Reflecting on these milestones fills me with gratitude and pride, as well as excitement for the future of our group and my own journey”. Nichola Mclachlan Bobby Kerr Jonny Curley Hilda R. About us
The Scottish Leisure Network Group is a not-for-profit voluntary organisation staffed by members from Leisure Trust organisations. The Group was founded in 2003 by Bobby Kerr of West Dunbartonshire Leisure Limited, who saw the need to bring together local authority providers to share best practice and experience. Since then, the Group and the landscape of leisure operators has changed with the emergence of Leisure Trusts and the growth in the University sports sector. The Group welcomes these new types of members and is committed to a partnership approach to providing sport and leisure industry guidance, sharing of best practice and develop bench-marking processes.

Exciting news for our industry to enhance our standards then benefitting both our customers and staff. Great work ukactive!
Today, ukactive has officially launched The Active Standard, a baseline certification designed for all operators - whether from the private, public or independent parts of the sector – to enhance standards at fitness and leisure facilities across the UK. The Active Standard certification is aligned with the industry’s existing standard schemes, FITcert and Quest, and provides an opportunity for operators to demonstrate their quality and compliance with UK law, helping to build consumer trust and improving reputation and resilience. The certification has been developed with partners Sport England, CIMSPA, Right Directions (Management) Ltd (which delivers Quest), EuropeActive and The Royal Netherlands Standardisation Institute (NEN) (which together deliver the European FITcert Scheme), and comes free of charge as part of a ukactive membership. Operator members can achieve the certification through an assessment by a third-party body, covering requirements for health and safety compliance, professional standards, safeguarding measures and data protection. To find out more about The Active Standard, read the press release, where you can also access a list of handy FAQs: https://lnkd.in/eYYjeQ3E

Well done to West Lothian Leisure on winning our Impact and Innovation sponsored by Integratis Consulting presented by Neil Ross Drawing on expert guidance and insights from our in-house team and ukactive, West Lothian Leisure designed and developed a pioneering and distinctive programme tailored for young people aged 12 to 15 focusing on strength training, with an emphasis on technique and best practices. This approach moved away from traditional cardio and bodyweight only training responding to the needs of members, current trends and sports development for this age group. Xcite Fitness Factory is meticulously designed for 12 to 15 year olds to elevate individual fitness experiences through a structured, three-stage induction process ensuring members are well-educated, competent, and confident in their use of equipment and training. Delivering on key competencies whilst allowing flexibility and builds in ongoing support for members. The approach taken focuses on three areas: ✅Cardio and Functional Training ✅Resistance Training and Flexibility ✅Core and Comprehensive Training The success of Xcite Fitness Factory is not only evident from parent/carer and participants feedback, but through an increase in demand with 3,500+ additional induction sessions delivered for 12-15 years old year on year. Congratulations again! Amazing work! 👏👏 Scottish Leisure Network Group Proinsight Mystery Shopping
