🌿 Celebrating the End of a Busy Season! 🌿 To mark the end of a fantastic season, the Seasons Ecology Tonedale team came together from across Somerset and Devon for a special gathering in the woods, combining social time with valuable training opportunities. As part of the People's Trust for Endangered Species National Dormouse Monitoring Scheme, we checked dormouse boxes and were thrilled to find nine dormice! 🐭 This gave the whole team excellent hands-on experience with handling, aging, and sexing these elusive creatures. We also checked our bat boxes and installed a few more, spotting a soprano pipistrelle along the way! 🦇 The event was more than just a celebration – it was a chance for our senior and experienced surveyors to share their knowledge with the early-career team members, supporting their skill development. These practical experiences not only contribute to personal survey licences for dormice and bats, but also build confidence and competence in species monitoring outside of primary roles. It’s a joy to invest in our team’s growth, both professionally and personally, while contributing to important conservation work. Here's to a season well-spent and a team well-celebrated! 🎉 #EcologyTeamwork #ConservationTraining #DormouseMonitoring #BatConservation #InvestingInPeople #SeasonCelebration #SeasonsEcology

Great to see the fantastic nature restoration works at Kipscombe being undertaken by the National Trust showcased on BBC Studios Countryfile yesterday evening. So proud to have undertaken baseline ecological surveys for such an exciting project and already start to see the positive results of landscape-scale change. https://lnkd.in/eEEfwEMd #SeasonsEcology #NatureRestoration #biodiversity #ecology

🌿 Exciting News from the Field! 🌿 Last week, our senior ecologist Hannah Willis had the incredible opportunity to be involved in ringing five barn owl chicks (under licence) on Exmoor! 🦉✨ We feel so lucky to have had this unique experience. Hannah is collaborating closely with the property owners to conduct essential repairs and maintenance, ensuring the longevity of nesting opportunities for these beautiful creatures. Being able to ring the barn owls chicks will hopefully contribute to research on population trends and long-term conservation measures for this species. Here's to more amazing opportunities and impactful conservation work! 🥂🌳 #Ecology #WildlifeConservation #BarnOwls #FieldWork #ConservationScience #TeamWork

🌿 Seasons Ecology Team Training Day 🌿 Today was a fantastic day of botany at the beautiful Middledown Nature Reserve on the Mendip Hills, despite the rain! 🌧️ We had the pleasure of learning from the wonderful Dominic Price of The Species Recovery Trust. A great opportunity for our ecologists from teams across Somerset and Devon to get together away from the office. Amidst our busy survey season, it's crucial to find time for team bonding and continued professional development (CPD). A big thank you to everyone for their enthusiasm and resilience in the face of the weather. Here's to more learning and teamwork! 💪🌱 #SeasonsEcology #TeamTraining #Botany #CPD #TheSpeciesRecoveryTrust #MendipHills #Ecology #Teamwork

💚Volunteering as part of the People's Trust for Endangered Species National Dormouse Monitoring Programme provides a great opportunity to contribute to monitoring long-term dormouse population trends and gain valuable experience in carefully handling and recording hazel dormouse 🐭. 🌳 Our 2024 monitoring season got off to a great start finding six torpid dormice, two wood mice, two tree bumblebee nests and over 100 blue/great tit eggs from 50 dormouse boxes checked this weekend on the Somerset/Devon border 🐾 #Volunteer #Conservation #WildlifeMonitoring #DormouseProtection #NDMP #PTES #training

🏭 🕴 Our Wellington team thoroughly enjoyed Somerset Council's guided tour of Toneworks, our local heritage site, today.🏭 🦇 Toneworks is part of the wider Tonedale Mill site, where our Wellington office is based, close to the Somerset/Devon border. Tonedale Mill was established in the 18th century and played a significant role in the region's textile manufacturing history. It was once the countries largest textile mill, employing 5000 people. The site was renowned for its production of textiles, contributing to Somerset's industrial heritage. Operations at Tonedale Mill ended in 2000 and since then the condition of the buildings has deteriorated rapidly and the site has found itself on Historic England's ‘heritage at risk’ register. Today, efforts are underway to preserve and restore the Grade 2* listed site and contents (which include some fascinating historic machinery and three power systems (and wildlife!)), ensuring its historical significance is celebrated and maintained for future generations to appreciate. #TonedaleMill #HeritagePreservation #CommunityDevelopment #SomersetHistory #biodiversity 🏞️🛠️
