We provide high quality water to approximately 750,000 people in parts of Surrey, Sussex, Kent and south London.

About us

We are a water-only company, supplying drinking water to more than 750,000 customers in East Surrey, West Kent, South London and parts of West Sussex. 85% of our water supply comes from the deep aquifers in the chalk of the North Downs or the large deposits of greensand south of the Downs. We also source 15% of our water supply from the River Eden and it’s stored in our Bough Beech Reservoir, near Sevenoaks in Kent. Water is an essential, and increasingly precious, resource. We understand its value and are committed to sharing this knowledge with our customers – helping to preserve the environment and secure future supplies. But actions speak louder than words, and we will only achieve our goals by working hard and in partnership with the community we are privileged to serve. Please call 01737 772000 in an emergency.

SES Water are the only UK water company that softens water, a unique practice mandated by law in the early 1900's. Last week I had the privilege of visiting the Netherlands, the global authority on water softening, to exchange knowledge on this critical process. We toured two treatment works that supply the cities of Utrecht and Amsterdam, learning about their innovations in softening, automation, and sustainability - many of which resonate with the challenges we face, like PFAS, climate resilience, and the environmental impacts of softening. Highlights included seeing OPIR software, which we’re trialing at SES, in action and gaining valuable insights into improving operational performance, efficiency and sustainability. Our Dutch hosts were incredibly welcoming, and we look forward to reciprocating their generosity by inviting them to SES Water for further knowledge sharing 🌍💧 A huge thank you to Graeme Baker and Martijn Deenen from Royal HaskoningDHV for organising the trip.

We are celebrating men's health month at SES Water. earlier this month we welcomed Darren Couchman from The Robin Cancer Trust who delivered an important session about testicular cancer and the vital work that the charity carries out in the community to help those diagnosed, survivors and their families. The session also delved in to the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer and how we as an organisation can continue to support this brilliant charity. Thank you to the Robin Cancer Trust and Darren for a very informative session

In 2013, SERT installed three silt traps (Downstream Defenders, supplied by Hydro International) beneath the roads of Carshalton to capture contaminated road sediment before it reaches the river. Protecting the gravel bed is essential, as it serves as a habitat for invertebrates and a place where trout bury their eggs. Last week, we emptied these traps, removing approximately two cubic metres of contaminated sludge. This timely maintenance ensures healthier conditions for trout eggs as they prepare to hatch. We extend our gratitude to @SESWater for funding this crucial work. Together, we're safeguarding river health and biodiversity. 🐟🌍 #SustainableWaterways #ConservationSuccess #Biodiversity

In honour of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, colleagues from across the business got involved in Breast Cancer Now's 'Wear it Pink' day! We put on a bake sale to celebrate everyone's efforts and raised nearly £300 for the UK's biggest breast cancer charity. They are on a mission to make sure that by 2050, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer lives, and is supported to live well. #WearitPink

We’re pleased to have published our Water Resources Management Plan, setting out how we will continue to supply high-quality drinking water for our 750,000 customers between 2025 and 2075. The plan is focused on making better use of the water available by reducing leakage, as well as helping our customers use less water. The plan reflects customer and stakeholder feedback and also aligns with the regional plan produced by Water Resources South East (WRSE), an alliance of six water companies in the South East, who all operate in an area of serious water stress. You can read more about the plan on our website at: https://ow.ly/iS4e50TMKop
