Our Civil Engineer Nikola Urbaczka & HR Manager Beth Zarkhosh Assoc. CIPD attended the Women in Property Role of EDI in Sustainability event yesterday evening. Presented by Catalina Ionita and Alexander Esfahani from Chapman Taylor, the event was brilliant and very thought provoking. The discussion around such a sensitive topic was brilliantly delivered, and we want to thank both Catalina and Alex for sharing their own personal stories which resonated so much with both Nikola and Beth - both of which come from similar ethnic backgrounds. It was fantastic to see such a lovely allyship from both presenters and their knowledge was greatly appreciated. Understanding the role of EDI, we believe, should be acknowledged by everyone in the workplace and over the next few months we will be encouraging our own team to learn and share more within the company. We look forward to the next one!

Great news to see that Firethorn Trust have recently let the 674,000sq.ft logistics building at Links Logistics Park, Ellesmere Port. The tenant for the next 10 years will be B&M. At the time of construction, this was the largest speculatively built shed in the UK. SGi provided Civil and Structural Consultancy services for the project. Whilst the SGi team were winding down last Friday evening, our Structures Director Damien Schofield was in God's Own Country completing mount Snowdon (Wyddfa) to raise funds for Dr.Kershaw's hospice in Oldham 🏔 The group managed to raise over £3k which is fantastic. An incredible cause even if the legs were a bit sore after! Well done Damien, the whole of SGi team are very proud of you 👏

A few of the SGi team enjoyed a well deserved Friday wind down last week and it was great! The team feasted on some incredibly tasty food over at New Century Hall washed down with a drink or two! A very enjoyable night with our dedicated and hard working employees 🙌🏾 Thank you to Nikola Urbaczka for organising 👏🏾

Over the past two days our HR Manager Beth Zarkhosh Assoc. CIPD attended the annual CIPD conference at Manchester Central where she learnt more about two extremely important topics that we as a company believe strongly about. 💡 Neurodiversity in the workplace. Hearing Cybill Watkins and Michelle Hobson discuss the strengths and struggles of those who are neurodivergent and the ongoing bias and prejudice they face daily within the workplace. Having Cybill talk about her own personal journey was inspiring and learning more about those with neurodivergent attributes are a fantastic asset to any company. 💡 Are women a burden to employers? Sharing the 2024 Gender Health Gap report. Presented by Dr Amy Pressland where she discussed the findings from over 10,000 women on how they feel they are treated when experiencing many health and reproductive changes and the impact they believe it has on their careers. To hear the UK is ranked the 12th worst in the gender health gap is simply shocking and very saddening. Overall, we as a company want to take the information from these presentations and ensure we are promoting inclusion, engagement, and conversation around two very important issues our own employees might face. #cipdace #neurodivergent #womenintheworkplace #hr

SGi today announce that it has extended its lease in Phoenix House for an additional 5-year term and has now taken on an additional floor in the building doubling its office floor space in Manchester City Centre. Whilst a hybrid approach to working has been adopted over the years, it is still vital that SGi Consulting Engineers remains at the heart of the city centre where the majority of its staff commute to daily. The team in SGi are proactive in the delivery in terms of day-to-day commitments and meeting the level of collaboration required to ensure deadlines are met. Over the past year the company has recruited several promising younger staff who are learning skills from their mentors which is taken place in the head office in Manchester. Within the past 5 years SGi have implemented change to reflect the ever-growing diversity and meeting the cultural and faith needs of its employees is important. The need for additional space has become apparent to create a more conducive environment for all staff. Phoenix House has successfully attracted a number of complimentary professional tenants since it was refurbished and is currently 100% occupied. With the City centres amenities on its doorstep, a first class fit-out and self-contained floors, SGi joins a growing number of tenants who are expanding or retaining their occupancy of the building. SGi were represented by Freeths and the Landlord was represented by Edwards Property Consultants and JLL.

Our Managing Director Emyr Jones and Senior Structural Engineer Rana A. attended the Place North West RESI conference. An incredibly insightful event and as always it is important to hear about the residential landscape and what the future holds. Great to hear from the GM Mayor Andy Burnham as he spoke with Dan Whelan on all things Bee Network, his relationship with the new government and the future of residential growth across Greater Manchester. Thanks Place North West for another great event.
