It’s fantastic to see the Nucleus Building – designed as the new heart of the King’s Buildings campus – recognised by The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. The building expands undergraduate teaching and offers a variety of learning environments for the university, creating a much-needed focal point and meeting place on campus. Our designs enhance the student experience, offering attractive spaces for study and socialising, and centralising student services. At ground floor, public uses such as a café and retail space help to enliven the public realm while the building's location introduces a new accessible pedestrian route, improving connectivity and integrating it seamlessly into the local community. #RIASawards Curtins Arup Thomson Bethune ID:SR Sheppard Robson Sandy Brown Atelier Ten Kirk and Marsh Ltd HarrisonStevens Landscape Architecture & Urban Design Ryden | certified B Corp McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd Photography by Keith Hunter

Architecture and Planning
We are a collective of architects, interior designers and masterplanners.
About us
Sheppard Robson is an ever-evolving collective of architects, interior designers and masterplanners. Together our team of 370 people design buildings, spaces and places that are people-centred and precision-made. Our family includes our interior design specialists ID:SR and AXIS, which applies our detailed design expertise to major projects by others. From our offices in London, Manchester and Glasgow, we work on a scale, and with a legacy of expertise, that means we can engage with society’s most pressing challenges. The most urgent of these is the need to achieve a better balance between humans and nature on our planet of limited resources. With no single solution, the mitigation of climate change can only be achieved with the critical application of an inventive, multi-layered approach, and by fundamentally rethinking how we live, learn, work and play. Our work is the result of creative, technical and intellectual exchange. People-centred design comes out of an engagement process where architects enable, listen and interpret as well as lead. With a robust methodology for testing ideas, we are able to fine-tune them without losing their pioneering spirit. Every project we make presents the opportunity to push our learning a little further, but we never forget that innovation should always be in the service of a clear purpose – to design for life.

Here, Sheppard Robson partner Anna Shapiro sketches the memorable features of our tall residential building that is part of The Earls Court Development Company’s Earls Court masterplan, a once-in-a-generation opportunity to unlock a complex site and transform a currently derelict part of London. It’s rare to design a true landmark building – one that is both familiar at a distance and helps define a place. Balancing city-wide and local impact, the building includes a generous podium base that shapes the “Cascade” series of new public spaces. The civic-minded design is rooted in the park setting, blending into its landscape and helping shape an Earls Court for everyone. As ever, a project of this ambition and scale hinges on collaboration, with our work informed by a partnership with the client, masterplanners, and the architects working with us on the Hammersmith & Fulham part of phase 1, Serie Architects and dRMM. #earlscourt #redevelopment #residentialdesign #masterplanning #sketch

Join Partner and Head of ID:SR Sheppard Robson Helen Berresford at next week’s Workspace Design Show London for a panel discussion centred around ‘Shaping workplaces that stand the test of time’. The discussion chaired by Mick Jordan, will feature Helen and Devinder Bhogal from Deloitte in conversation about the process of designing Deloitte’s London office at 1 New Street Square. From the start, the project was driven by a desire to champion people and the environment, resulting in an agile and efficient mix of work settings, amenities and client spaces that set new standards for wellness and sustainability. Five years on, the scheme is still successfully meeting the business’ needs. To learn more about the project and process, and to catch a look at our designs at the Workspace Design Show, book to attend the talk next Wednesday (26th February): https://lnkd.in/dxRN2HUk

Planning has been submitted for a new 121-bed purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in King's Cross. The development transforms a surface car park into a seven-storey PBSA building with 60m² of community space and a green courtyard at ground floor. Working with Curlew Capital, our design showcases innovative engineering with a distinctive three-part composition: a lightweight pavilion floating above the Thameslink tunnel, a cantilevered western section, and a robust eastern element providing structural support. The Times has shone a spotlight on Earls Court today. With London’s housing crisis never far from the news agenda, Andy Silvester reports on how major destinations like Earls Court can play a pivotal role in bringing forwards the homes Londoners need, all while shaping the future of our capital. ECDC is unlocking the potential of London’s largest cleared development site, in a way that prioritises community, green spaces, and economic growth. With our masterplan including c. 4,000 new homes, 35% of which will be affordable, 20 acres of public space, and a hub for innovation and sustainability, we are creating a new piece of city that will deliver jobs, homes and investment, and make a significant contribution to the London and UK economy. Each space will be supported by one of the largest acoustics research groups in the world and the hands-on expertise of specialist technical staff. Located at a strategic gateway position within the Crescent Salford masterplan, the building's distinctive form responds to highly specialised internal requirements while creating a civic presence. The design arranges a series of advanced acoustic testing chambers within a triple-height volume, wrapped by a single-storey element to two sides which houses support spaces. This configuration steps down towards the base of Salford Rise and a future public plaza, positioning offices and laboratories along the prominent frontage. Alexander Smith, Partner at Sheppard Robson, said: "This facility will reinforce the department's position as a national leader in acoustics, creating spaces that enable innovation in teaching, research and commercial activities. The architectural expression draws on the area's industrial heritage while looking to the future, communicating a pioneering spirit of both the Acoustics Building and the wider masterplan.” The University of Salford Morgan Sindall Group plc Gleeds Arup Buro Happold Renaissance Associates Limited Design Fire Consultants BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd) Planit ORSA Visualisations by NJY studio
