Just in case you haven't seen the commissioning of our wonderful new Planetarium....... https://lnkd.in/eCieH9PP
A weekend sneak preview of how we are going to bring #STEM subjects through #Astronomy to our local community as well as to national and international visitors here in #Nottinghamshire. The commissioning of our planetarium started this week and what you see here is only of a small part of what is in store when we open next month. Our Planetarium and Science Centre at #SuttoninAshfield is nearing completion and today we have been experiencing a taster of what we can offer our visitors. A big thank you to #AshfieldDistrictCouncil for believing in our vision and to all our very many sponsors for your generosity, support and encouragement. Prepare for lift off, prepare to be amazed!

We've been busy again this weekend!
Another busy weekend here at Sherwood Observatory hosting our final Solar Viewing Day of the season. We welcomed members of our local community as well as visitors who had travelled some distance. We even had a visit from Callan Smith pictured here, who is presently in the U.K. on holiday from his home in #Perth #Australia Amazingly, the sun shone brightly for most of the day enabling all of our visitors to do some solar viewing through our special solar adapted telescopes. They were also able to enjoy a short lecture, view our 24" Newtonian telescope and get a peek at our state-of-the art Science Discovery Centre and Planetarium which is rapidly approaching completion. The first of our Autumn/Winter season Open evenings is on Saturday 19th October and tickets can be booked on our website so watch out for the link to go live. https://lnkd.in/epQW8yGN Warning: Never look directly at the sun. It is harmful and may seriously damage your eyes.

We've been out and about this September.
This weekend we enjoyed a great and interesting day with our stand at The International Astronomy Show near Coventry. We were able to introduce Sherwood Observatory to those who travelled from other parts of the U.K and share all that we are doing to encourage #STEM education through #Astronomy in our new Science Discovery Centre and Planetarium, due to open at the end of this year in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Our volunteers spent the day talking with visitors who ranged from having a lifetime of astronomical experience to being new to all things 'astro' as well as young excited new skywatchers. We look forward to welcoming them all to visit our new facilities in the coming year.
