About us
South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is part of the National Health Service (NHS). We respond to 999 calls from the public and healthcare professionals. We cover a diverse geographical area of 3,600 square miles (Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent, Surrey, and North East Hampshire), which includes densely populated urban areas, sparsely populated rural areas and some of the busiest stretches of motorway in the country. We have over 4,000 staff working across 119 sites in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Almost 90 per cent of our workforce is made up of operational staff – those caring for patients either face to face, or over the phone at one of our Emergency Operations Centres. Our patients range from the critically ill and injured who need specialist treatment, to those with minor healthcare needs who can be treated at home or in the community. As well as a 999 service, we also provide the NHS 111 service for Kent, Medway and Sussex (together with IC24) for when it’s urgent but not life-threatening.

After surviving multiple organ failure, 72-year-old Susan from Ashford, Kent recently reunited with the team who helped to save her life. 🚑 When Susan fell critically ill last November, her husband Richard dialled 999, where Emergency Medical Advisor Laura Sale triaged the call, and Resource Dispatcher Sarah Weller coordinated a team of four clinicians. Thanks to their swift actions, Susan received urgent care and spent four days in critical care before making a recovery. 💙 Now back on her feet, Susan visited our Ashford Make Ready Centre to personally thank Laura and student paramedic Inese Rozina. 💙👏 To read more about Susan and Richard's reunion with Inese and Laura, click here: https://lnkd.in/eXFc-azy

Well done to Surrey paramedics, Daren Dyer and Ben Wakefield along with Student Paramedic Katie Perry on receiving the High Sheriff of Surrey Award this week! The award recognises the crew’s incredible handling of a major road traffic accident in 2023 on the M25. Alongside two members of the public, who assisted until further help arrived, the team were praised by a Surrey judge for their excellent handling of the incident following the sentencing of one of the drivers involved in the incident for causing death by dangerous driving. Well done, Daren, Katie and Ben!

As February’s Heart Month comes to a close, we’re proud to reflect on our nationwide-leading cardiac arrest survival rate. To mark the occasion, we’re sharing this short video to encourage everyone to take the time to learn how to save a life. Valentine’s Day saw us launch our annual cardiac arrest report and reunite Chatham man, Chris Mills and his wife, Brenda with the ambulance team who helped save Chris’s life. Only together we can drive up cardiac arrest survival and save more lives. 💔➡️💚Would you know what to do? #HeartMonth #CPR #LifeSavingSkills

👮♀️ The High Sheriff of Kent, Dr Gillian Fargher, swapped her ceremonial duties for frontline action with our Joint Response Unit (JRU) earlier this week. 🚔 The visit began at our Medway Make Ready Centre, where The King’s Judicial County Representative and former GP, Dr Gill, gained a first-hand insight into the unique partnership between the Trust and Kent Police in responding to incidents across the county. 👥 Teaming up with Operational Team Leader Alex Wilson MCPara, Gill began her shift with a visit to the control room, where she met Resource Dispatcher Ritchie Washington, who was managing the Medway dispatch desk. 👏 A huge thank you to Dr Gill for taking the time to understand and experience our Joint Response Unit.
