As part of our promise to protect the environment and boost the local economy, South Hams District Council have been working with local marine businesses, harbour authorities and industry experts to help move away from fossil fuel to electric power on the water. Organisations recently came together to see how our marine industry can do its bit to tackle air and water pollution across the South Hams. Watch our video including interviews with our Members, Chris Smith of University of Exeter, Paul Singer, CMgr MCMI of South Devon College and Gary Jolliffe of Till the Coast is Clear https://lnkd.in/ec9mdifT #southhams #marine #climate #economy *Some video footage courtesy of RS Marine Group

New homes are coming to Lifton. Deputy Leader of West Devon Borough Council, Cllr Mark Renders, and our housing team joined Plymouth Community Homes on 3 October to mark the start of their work to deliver 16 new energy efficient and lower cost homes in Lifton. We are supporting the development which will offer 10 affordable rent and six shared ownership properties. The homes which will be available from Spring 2025 will be prioritised for those with a local connection to the area to meet the housing needs of the community - one of our top priorities. We are looking at marine activities across the South Hams and finding ways to reduce carbon emissions and water pollution. One of the biggest issues we face are boats abandoned, sunk or stranded within the Dart, Salcombe-Kingsbridge and Yealm estuaries. This is having an environmental and financial impact on our marine community. We are finding ways to help tackle the problem, including our recent vessel recycling project, teaming up with partners Creekside Boatyard, Blue Parameters, South Devon College, supported by Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and The Green Blue Watch our recent video to learn more. 👀 https://lnkd.in/ehdqzc6m Read more at https://lnkd.in/eye2b8Mn #southhams #climatechange #dartmouth #marine #cleanmarine

With our focus on tackling climate change, South Hams District Council has been speaking to the local marine community across on the importance of electric propulsion on our waters. We are working with The Green Blue and Round Britain eRIB to find out more about the opportunities, challenges and solutions to support boat users in their move to cleaner marine propulsion. Communities visited us at the Salcombe Boat Show last Friday to share their views. There is still time for communities to have their say through our joint online survey until Friday 30 September. 👇 https://lnkd.in/e6cehJcE #southhams #climate #cleanmarine
