It may not be the highest profile consultation open at the moment, but the Law Commission’s consultation on the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act is certainly worth responding to. The headline proposals would be damaging to housing associations’ governance, accountability and financial management. None of them would deliver a better outcome than the current version of the Act. And they’d add unnecessary cost and administrative complexity at a time when many housing associations are under financial strain. The Commission needs a radical rethink and it’s up to housing associations to spell out why. We’re thrilled to announce that we've been been shortlisted in the National Housing Maintenance Forum (NHMF) awards for ‘Most Innovative Property Services Project’. Our nomination is for the replacement of flat roofs on two high-rise residential blocks on George Downing Estate #Hackney #London, which have been suffering from historic leaks.   This project was the first emergency application to the Building Safety Regulator under new regulations, setting a new standard for safety and compliance while ensuring effective response to a situation that required an urgent intervention. Our Capital Investment Team worked closely with Building Safety as well as Chas Berger and National Rail to design and deliver the work to this higher-risk building, which was made more complex due to proximity to a live railway line. They developed innovative scaffolding designs to ensure safety and by using high-performance materials, they significantly boosted thermal efficiency, durability, and the overall aesthetic of the buildings, leading to substantial long-term cost savings and better living conditions for our residents.   Mij R., Director of Capital Investment, said "We're immensely proud of the work achieved at George Downing Estate. This project stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to construction excellence, prioritising resident safety and keeping their needs at the core of everything we do." #SouthernHousing #UKHousing #UKHousingAssociations #CapitalInvestment

This week, we welcomed potential delivery partners - including suppliers and contractors - to the Building Centre for our Capital Investment Market Engagement Event. The event was an opportunity to share our ambitious 10–20 year investment plan, which involves investing £1–2 billion into improving our existing homes. We outlined what we need from our partners and the wider sector to deliver the highest standards of service for our residents. The event also fostered valuable connections and provided an open forum for feedback, which will help shape the future of our investment contracts. 💬 Mij Rahman, Director of Capital Investment, shared: “We’re committed to building strong relationships with suppliers and contractors who align with our social purpose. We teamed up with Jet Flow UK to create a brand-new pond and seating area, which is providing a serene new place for residents to enjoy nature. A big thank you to HJ Golding who fitted the lighting into the pond and Beaver Pest Control who donated a bench and spent their personal time to plant a flower bed. In the past year, we received over 1,300 ASB reports from residents across London, the South East, the Isle of Wight, and the Midlands.
