  • The “Buyers that stole Christmas” results are in. 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄 Some of you have been waiting with bated breath for this, so drumroll please…. 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 TLDR; - Better performance from the most common publishers - But a depressing increase in the number of Christmas tenders overall Here are the top 10 organisations that are requiring bids to be submitted during the Christmas break… BRITISH COUNCIL - 9 CORNWALL COUNCIL - 7 LONDON BOROUGH OF LAMBETH - 7 NHS ENGLAND - 6 BELFAST CITY COUNCIL - 6 GUY’S AND ST THOMAS’ NHS FOUNDATION TRUST- 6 UNIVERSITY OF EXETER - 6 NHS PROPERTY SERVICES - 6 SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE COUNCIL - 5 KENT COUNTY COUNCIL - 5 The British Council top the pile this year, having been third last year. However, they have reduced their Christmas tenders from 14 (joint 3rd) in 2023 to just 9 tenders this year. NHS England has also made progress with 22 Christmas bids last year and just 6 this year. It’s also worth mentioning a couple of organisations that didn’t make the top 10 this year, both Bristol City Council and FCDO have been stalwart members of the Christmas Grinch club and both failed to make the top 10 this year. Bristol had been 4th last year with 10 Christmas tenders and have dropped down to joint 20th with just 3 Christmas tenders. FCDO had been joint 3rd with 14 Christmas tenders and have just 2 this year. Across the top 10 we saw 122 Christmas tenders last year and this has fallen to just 63 a significant drop from those at the top of the pile. However, this is the end of the good news. 2023 saw 413 Christmas tenders across the public sector, this year we have a whopping 690 tenders that have to be completed over the Christmas period. An increase of 40%. Behind all the bah humbugging that we indulge in here there’s a serious note, these tenders will get fewer bids and lower quality submissions. We understand that buyers have to continue working and that there is no sound argument for the whole of government grinding to a halt over Christmas, but it does seem to be self defeating to require bids to be returned on Boxing Day.
