Spirit of the Downs

As many of you I have been working with Spirit of the Downs for several years now and I love the team Michael Yeoman Bridgette Ryan and @josh harper in. This year we moved to our own distillery on the Bolney wine estate and now offer tours/ tastings. We have revamped the brand working with Paul Nash to create a strong visual identity. We use pomace (pressed grapes) from some the country’s best sparkling wine vineyards all based in Sussex to create a unique range of Brandies- the only ones using local English grapes! This year we decided to something a bit different to help people access the brand for the first time. We have created the most amazing cold brewed coffee brandy liqueur (possibly another first) using award winning coffee from @bean smitten . It is utterly moreish and surprisingly comforting . I love it neat (heavenly) but you can have it over crushed ice, in a martini espresso or I think it would be wonderful over ice cream. We have called it Boosy Barista because it encompasses all that is good and tasty about both coffee and brandy. At 20% alcohol and 70cl it retails for £28 . On Thursday we had a great open day for selected partners, friends and supporters; giving them a chance to see our new distillery in operation and see our progress. We are incredibly proud to celebrate winning silver at the 2024 World Brandy Awards for two of our brandies. SPIRIT OF THE DOWNS ENGLISH AGED SUSSEX BRANDY 2021. SILVER AWARD TASTING NOTE: "Some malt notes on the nose with stewed apple. The palate has notes of grape skin and is exceptionally dry with notes of pear and oxidised apple. The alcohol integration is superb given the higher ABV." SPIRIT OF THE DOWNS FRENCH AGED SUSSEX BRANDY 2021. SILVER AWARD TASTING NOTE: "A very spicy example with plenty of the wood and maturation notes coming through: notes of vanilla and bourbon with some aquavit-like caraway, before a slight bitterness on the finish."
