About us
St Barnabas supports more than 10,500 local people every year and delivers care to patients living with a life limiting or terminal illness and their families. Our ambition, for every patient we meet, is to enable them to live life to the fullest possible extent for however many days, weeks or months they have left. This year it will cost over £11.5m to deliver our services. The NHS does give us some money, but we still need to raise at least £5.5 million. There are so many ways you can get involved and help us achieve our ambition.

We were pleased to welcome Rt Hon Sir Edward Leigh to the our Inpatient Unit last week. A strong advocate for hospices and end-of-life care, Sir Edward visited to show his support and learn more about the vital work we do. During his visit, Sir Edward expressed his awareness of the challenges our sector is facing, including the impact of funding decreases and the ongoing discussions around the assisted dying bill. He also shared how he’s heard first-hand from constituents about the exceptional care their loved ones have received from the hospice, further highlighting the importance of what we do every day. Thank you, Sir Edward, for your support and recognition of the work we’re so proud to deliver.

💛 Dan’s Story: Honouring his Dad and supporting St Barnabas 💛 Dan Wells-Waller, from Louth, has gone above and beyond to honour his Dad, Chris, who passed away in 2022. From organising a 5k run that raised over £3,000 to being the Lead Torchbearer at our 2024 Torchlight Procession, Dan continues to inspire us. This year, he plans to run 60k in memory of his Dad for his 60th birthday. Chris, a dedicated farmer and loyal MotoGP fan, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2020. Despite the challenges, he remained strong, determined, and full of hope. St Barnabas’ Hospice at Home team cared for Chris, fulfilling his final wish to pass away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Dan says: “I can’t thank the nurses enough. St Barnabas care made this possible, and they supported all of us every single day.” Inspired by his dad’s resilience, Dan encourages others to take on a challenge for St Barnabas: “Just do it! You never know how much you can raise until you try. Every bit helps this amazing cause.” From marathons to skydives, there’s a challenge for everyone to support local hospice care. Join people like Dan and make a difference: https://lnkd.in/eNTVdEpw

Chloe Pearson, our Welfare & Benefits Manager, recently presented at the Hospice UK Conference! Chloe played a key role in contributing to a vital report for Hospice UK, outlining the challenges patients, families, and carers face when accessing benefits, as well as recommendations for much-needed changes. Here’s what Chloe had to say about her involvement: "I was asked by Katie Reade from Hospice UK to join a steering group to support writing the report. I provided advice on the challenges our patients and families face with accessing and understanding benefits, recommending changes to benefit rates, application processes, and rules. We also highlighted good practices, like the support provided by our Welfare and Benefits Team at St Barnabas. It was a privilege to contribute, and we hope this report will bring about real change for families across the UK." We’re so proud of Chloe for sharing her expertise and shining a spotlight on the amazing work being done at St Barnabas to support our community 💛
