Shaping a sustainable environment, now!
About us
We are at the dawn of the resource revolution. Faced with global population growth, increasing urbanisation and climate change, it is essential to radically change how our resources are managed and used. SUEZ uses innovation and collaboration to implement smart and sustainable resource management solutions: optimising how water is used thanks to information technologies, creating alternative water resources, recycling and recovering energy from waste. The Group supplies drinking water to 92 million people, provides wastewater treatment services for 65 million people, collects waste from almost 50 million people, recovers 14 million tonnes of waste per year and generates 5,138 GWh of local and renewable energy.

Our team in Bucksburn recently organised a Biodiversity Day at the Sclattie waste transfer station, which SUEZ UK operate on behalf of Aberdeen City Council. The event welcomed local Cubs and Scouts to get stuck into some hands-on activities to promote biodiversity on site. The day included a range of learning opportunities, including educational talks about local wildlife and discussions on the environmental impact of waste. The Scouts also created “homes for nature”, such as bug hotels and bird boxes, which will be placed around the Sclattie facility to support local biodiversity. A team of volunteers from SUEZ UK joined National Trust staff at Studland Heath to remove areas of gorse that threaten biodiversity in key natural habitats. Gorse can become invasive in certain areas, outcompeting other species and disrupting the balance of local ecosystems. By clearing areas of gorse, the National Trust aims to restore natural habitats, which in turn supports a wide range of wildlife. This initiative highlights the role that local businesses can play in environmental conservation. Find out more here: https://ow.ly/BYlX50UsoIW

Seghill Landfill Education Hub inspires future leaders 🍃 We were delighted to welcome pupils from Seaton Delaval First School to the Education Hub at the SUEZ-operated Seghill restored landfill in Cramlington. The visit combined classroom learning with hands-on activities to teach children about sustainability, waste management and protecting wildlife. With two successful school visits completed and more planned for 2025, the Seghill Landfill Educational Hub is helping to inspire the next generation to care for the environment and take action to protect it. The Government has today announced the members of its new Circular Economy Taskforce – and SUEZ UK is delighted to confirm that our Chief Technical Development and Innovation Officer Stuart Hayward-Higham. . (🔴🟡🔵/ 🟢) is among them. Stuart Hayward-Higham said: “If Net Zero represented a destination for previous Government policy, this circular economy taskforce is the vehicle that will take us there. Bringing together multi-industry, cross-sectoral expertise to overcome not just the scientific and technical barriers to circularity but also the economic, behavioural and logistical ones means we can finally now plot that route and ensure our contribution complements Net Zero policies. It is a real honour to be invited to join the taskforce; we at SUEZ have built our business model on the circular economy and look forward to sharing our expertise in delivering sustainable recycling and recovery solutions with the taskforce.” Read more... https://lnkd.in/gPq3p-PX

♻️We recently supported students at Runshaw College and the University of Liverpool to take action for the environment during Recycle Week 2024. A Recycle Week stall was set up on campus at Runshaw College in Leyland, where our team held encouraging conversations with students around recycling habits and the waste management practices at the college. Keeping momentum, a litter-pick was organised at a park near the college, which saw staff and students join forces over their lunch breaks, collecting eight bags of litter in just one hour. We also engaged with students at the University of Liverpool, hosting a stall where discussions were held on the university’s recycling efforts and waste reduction goals. SCOPE, a not-for-profit expert practitioner service operated by SUEZ UK, has donated more than £35,000 to 83 charities across the UK – bringing festive cheer to thousands of people. Established four years ago by Chief Technical Development and Innovation Officer at SUEZ, Stuart Hayward-Higham - SCOPE designs and implements solutions for organisations looking to reduce waste and maximise resources at every stage in their value chain. The profits from these solutions go into the SCOPE Christmas fund for local charities, ensuring positive change for communities and the environment. All charities were nominated by our staff, who were invited to put forward organisations in their local communities that are working to support those in need over Christmas. 📣 Supporting a worthy cause with Demelza Charity 📣 Earlier this month, SUEZ and Maidstone Borough Council team members from the Mid-Kent contract volunteered at Demelza’s Larkfield distribution centre, contributing to their life-changing work for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. From sorting donations to preparing items for sale, we were proud to lend a hand and learn more about the effort that goes into running such a vital organisation. Thank you to the Demelza team for welcoming us and sharing your inspiring mission! 🙌
