A new holistic health and wellbeing business has been launched in Sunderland by two running enthusiasts, with help from advisers at the North East BIC. Founded by 41 year old Kimberley Kerry from Lambton and 50 year old John Miller from Houghton-le-Spring, H3O Beach Saunas provide 'pop-up' saunas and cold plunge therapy. The pair, who have been friends for more than 20 years and regularly run together, began bringing their portable holistic health business to users at various seaside locations last year. Since then, they have expanded their offer and are set to introduce their holistic approach to post-exercise recovery to runners at events in 2025. H3O has received support via the Enterprising Sunderland programme, which provides a wide range of help for anyone considering self-employment. This week, our team working on the New Wear Footbridge in Sunderland passed the halfway mark in the deck panel installation. So far 49 precast concrete panels, each 10 meters wide, have been placed, with 42 left to go. The panels are being installed north to south using a bespoke trolley system, designed specifically for this project. Each panel is lifted by crane from the southern riverside park onto the deck trolley, which then transports and positions it with precision before returning for the next. Once in place, each panel is stitched to its neighbour using in-situ concrete to create a seamless deck. Once all the panels are in position, the final deck finishes can begin. The New Wear Footbridge is a key part of Riverside Sunderland, connecting the north and south sides of the river. It’s one of more than £1bn worth of development projects currently transforming the area. NEPO, Sunderland City Council, Riverside Sunderland
