International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI)
Non-profit Organizations
Our mission is to make resilience and sustainability key to every decision in the infrastructure lifecycle
About us
The International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure identifies and addresses the biggest barriers to action that have prevented us from working together for a sustainable, resilient and inclusive future. While the engineering-inclusive organizations at the center of the coalition seek to bring the kind of practical, science-based and solutions-oriented perspective that engineers are generally known for, we recognize that engineering-inclusive organizations alone cannot solve the systemic problems that exist at the intersection of climate change, aging infrastructure, and underinvestment. A multidisciplinary, multi-sector, global coalition is needed to break down the silos that have contributed to our collective failure to adapt and mitigate.

As COP29 draws to a close, ICSI is excited to announce a partnership with the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure on the fourth edition of the Climate Resilient Infrastructure report, that will focus on Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) and will be launched at #COP30. This report will seek to showcase how #GEDSI is critical to the development of sustainable and resilient #infrastructure. It will frame the need for better integration of GEDSI throughout the infrastructure lifecycle and explore ways for this integration to be actioned through avenues such as policy, strategy, standards and indicators. ➡ Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dZB_im7y

Take a look at this new publication launched today by the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure: Guidelines for Extreme Heat Management in Public Transport Systems 🌡 ICSI is proud to have contributed to these guidelines through Savina Carluccio's role on the advisory committee.
🚇 Public transport drives urban economic growth, linking growing urban populations to opportunities and critical services. 🌡️ Extreme heat exposes critical vulnerabilities in these transport systems, disrupting services and impacting livelihoods. 🤝 To support countries respond to this challenge, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure is convening global experts in a Community of Practice, dedicated to extreme heat resilience in public transport systems. 📢 At #COP29, today, this group launched new 'Guidelines for Extreme Heat Management in Public Transport Systems', aiming to help governments take appropriate and timely action to safeguard public assets and lives against #extremeheat. #resilientinfrastructureresilientworld

We were pleased to co-host this side event on engineering capacity and capability building. Read key takeaways below ⬇
Today at COP29 Azerbaijan, WorldGBC co-hosted a UNFCCC Side Event to discuss building capacity and capability to transition to a #sustainable, resilient and #builtenvironment. Here are key takeaways from the panel of Industry leaders from the Global South and North: 🌳 Our built environment must be fit for the future, our communities and our planet. 💚 We need to put equality and equity into focus and move the technical to the relational because people are at the heart of the transition. 📊 Data exists, but it’s too inconsistent, so we must make more rapid progress on alignment. 🏛️ Governments have an important role to play in capacity building and ensuring the silos between government departments are broken down. ⚡We need the power of governments to build the capacity the sector needs to take action and implement ambitious policy. 🤝 Associations and institutions must collaborate to address the capacity challenges in the built environment. 🎓 There is a growing inclusion of sustainability in education, but a transformational shift is needed to build capability. Students in more deprived areas are less likely to choose climate related courses. 👩🏽🤝👩🏾 We must engage women and girls and solve the gender divide. The issues discussed today are relevant and critical. But the solutions already exist. Thank you to everyone who participated in the session and shared your valuable insight: Dr Stephen Richardson (WorldGBC), Audrey Nugent (WorldGBC), Savina Carluccio (International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI)), Cordelia Burch (Royal Academy of Engineering), Angelos Pastras (DNV & WFEO - World Federation of Engineering Organizations), Professor Priti Parikh FICE (UCL & Fellow of the ICE), Nasra Nanda (Kenya Green Building Society), Andy Deacon (Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM)) and Martin Baxter (The Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment). Join us for something slightly different at #COP29 tomorrow. This session, hosted by Brahma Kumaris, will explore how modernist thinking and worldviews, entangled with colonial power dynamics, exclude other perspectives from decision-making. Speakers will interrogate how environmental policy tends to ignore human inner dimensions, intrinsic values and relational worldviews that are inherent in various traditional and wisdom communities. ICSI’s Executive Director, Savina Carluccio, will take part in the event, titled ‘Igniting the power of Transformative Partnerships for Inner and Outer Transformation’, focusing on humankind's relationship with nature and what this means for urban living. 📅 21 Nov ⏰ 11:15 -12:00 📍 SDG Pavilion, COP29 Azerbaijan
