PCRIC Speaks at CDRI COP 29 Side Event PCRIC CEO, Mr. Aholotu Palu, participated as a panellist at the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) side event during COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. With the theme, ‘Public Finance at the Forefront: Integrating Disaster Risk into Development & Financial Planning’, Mr. Palu emphasised the critical importance of embedding #disaster #risk #finance into the #Public #Financial #Management (PFM) framework from the planning stages. He highlighted that this integration should cascade down to the budgeting process, enabling more effective allocation of scarce resources and enhancing decision-making. Possessing an extensive background in PFM, Mr. Palu’s contributions, alongside those of his fellow panellists, fuelled a dynamic and insightful dialogue that significantly enriched CDRI’s study on Fiscal Risk Assessments (FRA) at both sub-national and national levels, reinforcing the importance of #strategic #fiscal #planning in #disaster #resilience.

Late post: The CDRI pavilion was an exciting space at this year's COP in Baku. It was a hub of activity, with several engaging sessions that featured high-level speakers whose presence added significant weight to the discussions on disaster-resilient infrastructure. I had the privilege of moderating a few panel discussions on behalf of CDRI. It was a vibrant experience with many valuable learning and networking opportunities that enriched our collective understanding of DRI and the role of various stakeholders. CDRI also made several high-profile announcements and launches at COP, each significantly contributing to our collective efforts towards infrastructure resilience. These include US$ 8 million worth of projects to support SIDS under CDRI's IRIS programme, Guidelines for Extreme Heat Management in Public Transport Systems; a CDRI-BCG Report on "Transport Infrastructure Reimagined: Forging Resilient Connections – An Integrated Framework to Unlocking Resilience Dividends for South Asia"; A Playbook on Physical Climate Risk Assessment for the Financial Sector and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). #resilientinfrastructureresilientworld

With the dust settling down on this year's "finance COP", the need to mobilize investments for infrastructure resilience as part of the overall climate adaptation is now more urgent than ever, particularly for the private sector to advance Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (DRI). I am deeply grateful to my panellists Jo da Silva DBE Arup Rowan Douglas CBE Howden Roger Cruz FAST-Infra Label Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation (GIB) and moderator Ramraj Narasimhan on the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure led session "Mobilizing Private Sector Investment for Disaster-Resilient Infrastructure in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies" for emphasizing this critical perspective! The insights have been invaluable, and I hope it helps shape the upcoming global narrative on climate financing for infrastructure resilience. Looking forward to continued collaboration for a deeper impact through multi-stakeholder collaboration, particularly in the EMDEs.
