Sustainable Aviation Fuel Innovation Programme (SAF IP)
Chemical Manufacturing
Helping build and accelerate the UK Sustainable Aviation Fuel industry, through a network of innovators.
About us
The objective of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Innovation Programme (SAF IP) is to help build and accelerate the UK SAF industry. This programme will build a network of innovators, publish analysis and reports, help you access finance and investment and empower you with expert technical knowledge through dissemination, working groups and masterclasses. The SAF IP exists to support the ambitions of the Jet Zero Council to grow the UK SAF industry. Innovate UK KTN is the secretariat for the JZC SAF Delivery Group and works closely with the Department for Transport and industry to define the barriers and opportunities to developing the industry. The SAF IP will complement the work of the JZC SAFDG by delivering technical working groups to inform policy and investment decisions and act as a neutral, impartial partner to connect businesses to customers, innovators, funding and resources. In partnership with Department for Transport and Sustainable Aviation

US Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) producer, LanzaJet is the latest company to select Teesside as the location for its new manufacturing plant. This move reinforces Teesside’s important role in driving the UK’s energy transition and supporting domestic SAF production. Continued investment in Teesside in clean energy and decarbonisation is helping position the UK as a leader in global aviation sustainability. Want to learn more about the region’s SAF ambitions? Check out our SAF Café series: 👉January episode – Richard Marsh, Project Development Manager at LanzaJet, shares insights on building a sustainable aviation future. 👉November episode – Professor Kumar Patchigolla, Decarbonisation expert at Teesside University, explores the region’s strategy for SAF development. https://lnkd.in/ekwyDnD4 #SustainableAviation #UKAviation #SAF #EnergyTransition #Teesside

✈️ Following the Chancellor's announcement backing a third runway at Heathrow Airport, Dr Michelle Carter, Head of Transport at Innovate UK Business Connect and lead of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Innovation Programme (SAF IP), has shared her insight on the role of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in decarbonising UK aviation. “The government’s airport expansion plans reinforce the critical role SAF plays in reducing UK aviation emissions. The UK is at the forefront of making air travel more sustainable with the launch of the SAF Mandate, a revenue certainty mechanism in development and fuel production at Phillips 66 in Immingham alongside a suite of government funded facilities. Growing the UK SAF industry not only supports net zero ambitions but is also delivering high-skilled jobs across the country.” Find out more about our SAF IP by visiting our website ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e9AQVXes #SustainableAviationFuel #SAF #Policy #Investment #ClimateChange
Economic growth is this Government’s national mission. Only by growing our economy can we put more money in people’s pockets, fund essential public services like education, health, and policing, and create the conditions for businesses to thrive. A key driver of growth is investing in the infrastructure that underpins it. That’s why, over the past six months, this government has driven progress on 13 major planning decisions - ranging from data centres and housing developments to vital transport hubs like airports. Airports, in particular, are engines of economic growth. They support thousands of jobs across the UK, attract high-tech industries and cutting-edge innovation, and connect British businesses to fast-growing emerging markets around the world. That’s why yesterday I backed plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport. Heathrow handles 60% of UK air freight, 15 million business journeys a year, and is the departure point for around three-quarters of all long-haul flights from the UK. Expanding Heathrow could create over 100,000 jobs, boost the economy by billions of pounds by 2050, and generate new investment far beyond London and the South East. To drive growth even further, we are spearheading investment in what could be the Silicon Valley of Europe, the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor. This region is already home to world-leading businesses, top talent, and ground-breaking research, yet its potential is held back by poor infrastructure. That’s why we are investing in road and rail links to improve connectivity across the region. It's why we are backing a new Cancer Research Hospital in Cambridge to drive healthcare innovation. And it's why we are working with the Environment Agency to lift barriers to new developments, unlocking 4,500 new homes alongside schools, offices, retail spaces, and cutting-edge laboratories. Through these bold decisions, we are ending the era of low expectations and low growth too many have become accustomed to. We are putting Britain on a new path - one that rewards hard work, fosters innovation, and ensures the next generation has more opportunities than the last. This is how we build a stronger, more prosperous Britain for the future.

♻️ ⛽ ✈️ Public funding for SAF producers through AFF extension!
We’re providing £63m of funding to help the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the UK. Potential SAF producers will be able to apply for funding through a one-year extension to the Advanced Fuel Fund. The funding will help to support the creation of jobs and provide a supply of SAF for UK airlines, helping to tackle the carbon and environmental impacts from aviation. This investment follows the SAF Mandate having recently come into force earlier this month, and the Government's commitment to introduce a Revenue Certainty Mechanism to support producers.
