About us

Synergy for Justice is a women-led, multidisciplinary team working to enhance justice and end impunity for torture, sexual violence, and human rights violations. In collaboration with partner organisations, we ensure that survivors of torture and sexual violence can access justice, receive the care they need to heal, and fully participate in society. Synergy collaborates with grassroots organisations and community facilitators to help survivors access resources for healing and address the stigma of sexual violence and the embedded beliefs that prevent survivors from reconnecting with their families and communities. Synergy’s stigma reduction programme helps communities deal with the fear, trauma, and stress created by oppression and ongoing human rights violations. Communities that successfully deal with the social and relational effects of war and conflict can provide better care for survivors and help them return to full participation in society. Synergy works with women activists and leaders to make sure that women’s voices are elevated and included in transitional justice processes in their countries. Peace, democracy, and reconciliation cannot be achieved unless women’s experiences, recommendations, and concerns are fully incorporated in transitional justice efforts. Synergy also collaborates with actors across the justice spectrum to provide technical support to enhance justice for survivors of torture and conflict-related sexual violence. A key component of Synergy's work with justice actors and systems is helping them recognise and eliminate bias and stigma related to sexual violence. Synergy’s Stigma Toolkit equips justice actors and justice systems to become survivor-centric, trauma-informed and capable of delivering the predictable and rigorous justice necessary to end impunity for conflict-related sexual violence.

  • "We’ve been watching in horror over the past year as Israel’s war on Gaza and the West Bank has created an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Gaza has now become unlivable. The destruction has left Palestinians living in Gaza without access to clean water, food, shelter, sanitation, and medical services. Local organisations are doing what they can to provide some support with the limited resources they can access. We reached out to the Center for Women’s Legal Research Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP), a local organisation supporting women and their children in Gaza, which have set up a temporary shelter to provide protection for women and their children. At the shelter, they provide basic food items, such as milk for their children, some clothing, and a space to sleep at night. The costs for the provision of these basic items have skyrocketed in Gaza and resources are limited. We are launching this campaign to provide CWLRCP with the financial resources they need to purchase these necessities for women and children in their shelter and continue to provide them with some protection in this devastating situation." — Mera Eftaiha, Synergy for Justice Director of Programmes Through our Responding Together campaign, we can provide safety and dignity to women and children in Gaza. 🔹 Donate today and stand with survivors in Gaza: https://lnkd.in/eKV8s-2M #synergyforjustice #endofyeargiving

  • "The displaced urgently require assistance and basic necessities. They need a pillow to rest their heads, allowing for brief moments of sleep if they can escape the traumatic thoughts that prevent them from resting. A blanket to keep warm, baby formula, and medicine for those in need. These are just a few of the countless essentials they require. This end of year, be the person who brings a glimmer of hope into the shattered lives of people in need in Lebanon." — Nathalie K. Der Mesrobian, Synergy for Justice Programme Coordinator. Through our Responding Together campaign, we are supporting Basmeh & Zeitooneh, a trusted organisation in Lebanon that provides displaced families with essential supplies like blankets and warm clothes as winter is setting in. They also provide shelter and deliver psychosocial support, helping families endure these challenges. Your donation will make a direct impact, offering displaced families the support they urgently need to survive and rebuild. Join us in responding together. As a new Syrian government takes shape, accountability measures continue to bear fruit outside the country. Today, Ahmad H., aka Abu Haider, was sentenced to 10 years in Hamburg Germany for crimes against humanity and war crimes, including torture, enslavement and imprisonment. He was a member of the National Defence Forces, an Assad-government affiliated militia. SJAC supported the case by connecting authorities with several witnesses to the case. Our trial monitoring reports of the entire trial are available here: https://lnkd.in/eQe46GkU Universal Jurisdiction will continue to provide a measure of justice to Syrians as Syria rebuilds a fair judiciary and establishes a framework for the prosecution of atrocity crimes. SJAC will support all credible measures to bring justice to Syrian victims.

  • 🔵 In Gaza, where displacement, destruction, and violence have become daily realities, the Center for Women’s Legal Research, Counseling, and Protection (CWLRCP) stands as a vital source of hope and support for women and families.   Founded in 2005, CWLRCP is a leading organisation in Gaza, running the Hayat Shelter, the only safe space for survivors of gender-based violence in the region. Despite immense challenges—including displacement of its staff and the destruction of its facilities—the organisation continues to provide lifesaving services, including: - Secure shelter for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. - Legal aid and counseling to empower women and families to seek justice. - Psychosocial support, dignity kits, and social mediation for displaced women. - Emergency medical care, including obstetric and gynecological services.   Since December 2023, CWLRCP has supported over 9,000 women with legal and psychosocial assistance.   🔷 Through our Responding Together campaign, Synergy for Justice is raising funds to help CWLRCP continue its vital work. Your donation will ensure that victims and survivors have access to safety, dignity, and the care they urgently need during this crisis. • 🔵 In our latest blog post, Morgane Landel, Synergy for Justice Legal Expert Contributor, explores the devastating impact of attacks on Lebanon’s cultural heritage and the potential avenues for accountability. UNESCO recently granted enhanced protection to 34 sites in Lebanon, aiming to safeguard cultural treasures from destruction. Despite this, there are significant challenges to protecting these sites and seeking justice. This year, Synergy for Justice is dedicating all end-of-year donations to organisations supporting victims and survivors of violence in Gaza and Lebanon, including CWLRCP in Gaza and Basmeh & Zeitooneh in Lebanon. 👉 We invite you to read the full blog here and support survivors of violence in Gaza and Lebanon by donating: https://lnkd.in/dbx3mWVp #Justice #Accountability #Lebanon

  • With renewed calls for accountability for the crimes committed by the Assad regime, we highlight the Syria Supplement to the International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict (IP2).    Developed by Synergy for Justice in collaboration with LDHR Lawyers and Doctors for Human Rights and Amal Healing and Advocacy Center, this resource offers guidance and best practices for documenting and investigating conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) in Syria. Chapters 3 and 4 of the Supplement outline possible accountability mechanisms for CRSV crimes committed by the Syrian regime across international and domestic levels. These include judicial, quasi-judicial, and non-judicial remedies aimed at pursuing justice.   We stand with legal experts urging for legal reform and accountability mechanisms that center access to justice for victims and survivors. As Syria’s future unfolds, we hope these principles guide the path toward justice and reconciliation. #Syria #Justice
