Last week we were thrilled to watch three Koestler Award-winning stage plays performed at the Royal Court Theatre by Synergy Theatre Project, bringing to life the stories written by our entrants. Our ongoing collaboration with Synergy allows us to celebrate aspiring writers and theatre-makers and nurture emerging talent in the criminal justice system. We also joined the actors on a visit to HM Prison Thameside, where they performed the plays to residents and we were able to share more information about this year’s Koestler Awards, hopefully inspiring more people to take part! Synergy is recruiting for a new trustee to join our Board. Do you have a passion for arts and social justice and a belief in the transformative power of theatre? Would you like to support our ongoing work and to help shape the future growth and direction of the organisation? Applicants should have a chartered accountancy qualification or the equivalent, experience of working within the Creative Arts or Charity sectors and be prepared to chair our Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. We are committed to bringing together people with diverse skills, knowledge, and experience to reflect the work of the company and the change we seek to make. As some groups are under-represented on our board, we welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, in particular members of the Global Majority. We're excited to be associated with Script Club: a new initiative from Nick Hern Books and Outside Edge Theatre Company bringing top UK playwrights together with writers from underrepresented backgrounds via Cardboard Citizens, Clean Break Theatre Company and Synergy Theatre Project. Script Club starts in December with Winsome Pinnock, focusing on her seminal play Leave Taking. Clubs to come in 2025 will feature Conor McPherson and Waleed Akhtar.
