Getting your culture right is your secret weapon. Your culture has the power to speed you up, slow you down, harness and deploy creativity or squash innovation and ultimately it will enable you to truly disrupt or to be an also-ran. Here's an entrepreneur's guide to company culture - what is it and why it matters - by Andrew Saffron, author of Better Culture Faster (Practical Inspiration Publishing) in Entrepreneur UK 📚 https://lnkd.in/dHxWdVJp

Here's what well-intentioned employers are getting *really wrong* about neurodiversity: ❌ responding to an increase in awareness with blanket approaches ❌ fragmented initiatives across an organisation ❌ attempting to measure belonging with SMART goals like disclosures ❌ one-off training events on specific conditions without being connected to wider strategies or support ❌ binary approaches of conditions being 'superpowers' or 'disabilities' ❌ confusion between their legal obligations and support such as Access to Work ❌ a lack of relevant, mandatory training - or additional resources where needed ❌ fear of providing support due to 'opening the floodgates' 🤦♀️ Which is possibly why employment tribunal claims relating to neurodivergence have increased by 30% in a year. 🙃 Here's how employers can get it right - and it's really not rocket science: ✅ training to reflect to underlying human values of empathy & connection - neurodivergence isn't limited to one medical condition ✅ providing psychological safety with neuro-affirmative training ✅ make conversations about neurodiversity relate to *everyone* - we all think differently ✅ teach the tools to have sensitive conversations with confidence ✅ mandatory disability training for managers & HR to ensure they understand their legal duties to make adjustments ✅ having reasonable adjustments policies to ensure everybody is on the same page (free sample: https://lnkd.in/eSb6CJYF) ✅ encouraging seeking support for all employees with flexibility and adaptability, such as hybrid working ✅ enabling all employees to work within their 'zone of genius' to utilise their unique strengths ✅ embracing neurodivergence throughout an employee lifecycle, including within senior roles as our in house ADHD Works Coach Paul Mosson 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️ recently shared at The Law Society of Scotland. There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ in neurodiversity – or human beings. 👋 Ultimately, our greatest strengths can also be our greatest weaknesses. Recognising and trusting this is key to provide safe environments where everybody is accepted as they are – we’re only human. Here's what I wrote about this for WeAreTheCity: https://lnkd.in/e6Byh4EU Does this resonate with you? What would you add?
