We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Development Professional (Bus Reform) to join our Transport Directorate The successful candidate will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline and should have some work experience. The role will provide fantastic development opportunities for those who have an interest in strategy and policy and an awareness of transport opportunities and challenges in the North East. The North East Combined Authority draft budget proposals for 2025/26 were agreed at our Cabinet meeting on the 26 November 2024. These proposals support our corporate plan. We manage a number of budgets, ensuring that money committed to specific programmes of work – whether capital or revenue expenditure – is spent in line with approvals. A public consultation on the proposals is running until 17 January 2025. If you have any comments or questions about the proposals, please let us know. We will anonymise and publish your comments, and where possible answer your questions, on this page. We will also inform both Cabinet and Overview and Scrutiny of your views, ahead of Cabinet setting next year's budgets in the New Year. Applicantions to the "All Access Pass: The Future of Inclusive Tourism" challenge close on 6 December. Take up the challenge to develop 5G and immersive technological solution to tackle some of the biggest barriers to make North East tourism truly open to all. 👇

Looking back on this week I feel so positive about the future of our region. 350 people joined our Child Poverty Summit committed to direct action to end child poverty in the North East. We’ve already committed £55m to measures that fight and prevent poverty and create opportunity. We’re just getting started! A huge thank you to Laura Repton, Huw Lewis FCIPR, Henry Kippin and the whole team at The North East Combined Authority for pulling off such a huge event that will see us take real action. Thanks Amanda Bailey and North East Child Poverty Commission for your support on the day and all the vital insight you give to guide us on this agenda. To Lesley Spuhler and the whole team at Foundation of Light (SAFC) for hosting. What a perfect venue. And to everyone who joined for the day. Committing the resources, time and expertise from your businesses, charities and organisations to take on this most important challenge for the future of our region.

We cannot morally plan for a growing North East without an aim that demands we strive for net zero and fight the climate crisis. It was great to speak at Net Zero North East England Summit about what action we can take together in this region. I was pleased to announce our plan for a Carbon Offsetting Marketplace so businesses in the North East can support biodiversity and decarbonisation projects in communities in the North East. The scale of what we can achieve here is huge. From transport, to housing and great green jobs and more. Despite the challenge facing us all- it was so uplifting to see so many from across our region already on it. Thanks Jess Cook for the amazing work you, the team and the board have put into pulling it all together.
