I hate the term “soft skills” ❌ It’s lazy language! The term suggests that these so-called soft skills are ancillaries. They’re just supplementary, just “good-to-haves”. I’ve worked in high-performing teams my whole career… Under a ton of different kinds of leaders. The harsh truth is that: Every organisation is obviously going to ensure their hires have the “hard skills”. To get your foot in the door, you must have sound technical/core skills. But everything that comes after: - Growing in your career - Achieving commercial outcomes - Climbing the ladder in a thriving business Involve a great deal of soft skills! At the top, more nuanced skills are the important ones. → Networking → Negotiations → People management → Effective communication → Understanding business operations → Accurately interpreting data → Connecting the dots between what’s going on externally (economy, politics and society) and your everyday job “Soft skills vs technical skills” is an outdated argument. You need both to drive the business forward. But soft skills are not “soft”. They’re critical for success.
