I'm sitting in the airport heading off to Dublin for a week of work in Ireland and Northern Ireland. I am very much the luckiest girl in the world. I have always felt like that but now I'm living with an incurable cancer, I'm even bloody luckier! To do what I do is humbling. I'm trusted and I take that very seriously. This book is a lifetimes work really which culminated in a PhD. I've stripped back much of the PhD bit and ensured that it is practice based, has moments to steady the reader and understands what it takes (and what it gives) to do this work. The Impact of Trauma on Learning 📅 Tuesday 11 February 2025 12.00 -13.30 pm It is well understood that traumatic and adverse childhood experiences hinder a child’s ability to feel safe and therefore learn well. Neurobiological research has found trauma impacts the brain areas associated with cognition, memor and learning. Trauma therefore jeopardises our brain health, which can translate to academic difficulty as well as problems with learning at school, college or university and with developing healthy relationships.
