Alliance of charities working to improve awareness & implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
About us
Together is an alliance of Scottish children's charities that works to improve the awareness, understanding and implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). We do this by: - promoting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; - helping children's organisations to integrate the UNCRC into their work; - monitoring and reporting on the progress made at a Scottish and UK level. Our growing membership is made up of a range of children's charities, from small local playgroups through to large international charities, alongside individuals, academics and professionals with an interest in children's rights. An annual 'State of Children's Rights Report' has been published by Together since 2010, to highlight the views and topics brought forward in ongoing consultation with it's members. In each report, case studies illustrating progress towards the full implementation of the UNCRC in Scotland are included alongside recommendations to highlight where the Scottish Government could make positive change.

"Every child has a story to tell. Every child has a right to be heard." Catching up on some important reading this week ahead of the festive break. I am thoroughly enjoying the latest State of Children's Rights Report from Together which was launched earlier this month. The stories, pictures and quotes included help to paint an important picture of life for babies, children and young people in Scotland today. Collectively they act as an important call to action for professionals and decision-makers working with and alongside children. Well done and thank you to the the team at Together (Scottish Alliance for Children's Rights)! ICYMI, you can access the report here: https://lnkd.in/e5QCuP4X

🎄On my last working day before Christmas Together (Scottish Alliance for Children's Rights) sent to me... Such a lovely package with the brand new State of Children's Rights Report! It came with a card painted by babies engaging with Art at the Start University of Dundee and wildflower seeds with an illustration by Zola (age 13) on the front 🐝 The report is going to be a key reference point throughout the year to check back to children and young people's views and experiences to keep their #RightsOnTrack. It was good to bring representatives of the Children's Sector Strategic and Policy Forum together with First Minister John Swinney and Natalie Don-Innes MSP to talk about embedding children's rights, policy coherence, the importance of a well-resourced third sector and what we can do differently to eradicate child poverty in Scotland.

How exciting to be able to shout about this new partnership with Clan Childlaw focused on building the capacity of Scotland’s children’s sector to identify and challenge child rights issues. Prior to joining the team, I was a member of Together (Scottish Alliance for Children's Rights) for many years and so I know just how important this partnership will be to building the confidence and knowledge of incredible day to day defenders of children’s human rights in Scotland 🏴 #HumanRights75

Very concerned to see that Prevent referrals increased by over 30% in Scotland last year Prevent is discriminatory & incompatible with human rights obligations The Scottish Government must show it is on the side of innocent people being targeted & call for an end to Prevent #HumanRightsDay Amnesty International UK in partnership with CEMVO alongside several organisations we wrote to ScotGov Justice last month asking to review how the Scottish Government can limit Prevent's impact in Scotland We look forward to meeting to continue the discussion #HumanRights75 https://lnkd.in/euXQ_GHV
