📚Together's State of Children's Rights Report #SOCRR2024 shares stories from babies, children & young people What matters to them & what needs to change! Baby Nora, 11 months, Edinburgh- “Mummy asked if I wanted to listen to music, so I bent my knees to dance a little to say yes. She put on a song, but I don’t want this one so I made a noise. Mummy skipped to the next song. It was ‘The Wiggle Dance’, which I love, so I danced by bending my knees and moving my hands. I told Mummy ‘up’ because I love dancing in her arms. She tried dancing with me on the floor, but I pushed against her and said ‘up up’, so Mummy lifted me. I love dancing with mummy. She’s funny. I let out a happy squeal as we danced. We spun in circles, and I laughed and smiled a lot.” Report here: bit.ly/SOCRR

About us
Together is an alliance of Scottish children's charities that works to improve the awareness, understanding and implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). We do this by: - promoting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; - helping children's organisations to integrate the UNCRC into their work; - monitoring and reporting on the progress made at a Scottish and UK level. Our growing membership is made up of a range of children's charities, from small local playgroups through to large international charities, alongside individuals, academics and professionals with an interest in children's rights. An annual 'State of Children's Rights Report' has been published by Together since 2010, to highlight the views and topics brought forward in ongoing consultation with it's members. In each report, case studies illustrating progress towards the full implementation of the UNCRC in Scotland are included alongside recommendations to highlight where the Scottish Government could make positive change.

Our first #UNCRC webinar event of 2025 will focus on the UNCRC and #Transitions for Disabled Children and Young People. We know that for many disabled young people the transition to young adult life presents challenges. It is therefore critical that we support disabled young people to have as positive an experience as possible during this time of change. This is not a single event, but a process which takes place over a number of years. The webinar will: •Provide an overview of the UNCRC (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 and children’s rights. •Give an opportunity to hear from young people about their experiences of transition. •Present the key principles of good transitions. •Provide an update about the transitions to adulthood strategy. •Offer practical information about tools/resources that can be used in practice to support good transitions. Presenters: •NHS Education for Scotland and Improvement Service •Children and Families Directorate, Scottish Government •Association for Real Change (ARC) ARC Scotland Registration & More Information https://lnkd.in/ePfeJB_x

📣Scotland's ACEs Journey Launch Event 2025 marks a big moment in Scotland! 20 years on from the start of our national journey to understand the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). It began in 2005 with the establishment of the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit. This anniversary deserves to be marked, so connected baby Suzanne Zeedyk is planning to do that all year long! Teaming up with lots of friends to offer a range of events that provide reminders of the actions taken by individuals and organisations. The enthusiasm for putting the knowledge of ACEs and trauma into practice is inspiring. They're looking forward to helping ensure those stories are heard. This Launch Event kicks off the year of celebration . They will be premiering graphic video tracing the history of those 20 years. This brand new resource will be available afterward for everyone to share. It is narrated by nearly 100 Scots voices, across the age range. They can't wait for everyone to hear how all those accents fit together -- and to see how they link with the many images featuring in the video. Join them on Wednesday 29th January 2025, 7pm - 8:30pm Register for free here: https://lnkd.in/e_vVc-ut

"Every child has a story to tell. Every child has a right to be heard." Catching up on some important reading this week ahead of the festive break. I am thoroughly enjoying the latest State of Children's Rights Report from Together which was launched earlier this month. The stories, pictures and quotes included help to paint an important picture of life for babies, children and young people in Scotland today. Collectively they act as an important call to action for professionals and decision-makers working with and alongside children. Well done and thank you to the the team at Together (Scottish Alliance for Children's Rights)! ICYMI, you can access the report here: https://lnkd.in/e5QCuP4X

It came with a card painted by babies engaging with Art at the Start University of Dundee and wildflower seeds with an illustration by Zola (age 13) on the front 🐝 The report is going to be a key reference point throughout the year to check back to children and young people's views and experiences to keep their #RightsOnTrack. It was good to bring representatives of the Children's Sector Strategic and Policy Forum together with First Minister John Swinney and Natalie Don-Innes MSP to talk about embedding children's rights, policy coherence, the importance of a well-resourced third sector and what we can do differently to eradicate child poverty in Scotland.
