BODYHEAT - Two years on Two years on from the installation of the innovative BODYHEAT system at SWG3 in Glasgow, we thought it would be a great opportunity to provide an insight on how the system is working, using data collected over the last two years. Check out this article on our website for more information on how it works, what it looks like and - most importantly - which gigs generate the most heat! https://lnkd.in/dqSt-vad #geothermal #netzero #dancing #clubbing #bodyheat

Geothermal Electric Power Generation
Edinburgh-based geothermal consultancy | Advising on low-carbon heating and cooling | Helping meet your net-zero targets
About us
We are an award-winning geothermal company based in Edinburgh, Scotland and a leading specialist in all aspects of the UK’s geothermal resources. We help our clients to understand the facts about the low-carbon heating technologies available to them. The advice we provide is bespoke to your site, and is tailored to address your heating and cooling demand requirements, and help you meet your net-zero and sustainability targets. We specialise in the valuation, development and operation of net-zero heating and cooling projects using flooded coal mines, hot sedimentary aquifers (HSA’s), granites (Hot Dry Rocks), open and closed-loop ground-source heat pumps, district heating integration and thermal energy storage. Our mission is to access the abundant geothermal energy of the earth’s subsurface to provide zero-carbon renewable heating and cooling to industrial, commercial and domestic energy users. Geothermal energy technology is a relatively new path to unlocking clean energy in the UK and is often poorly appreciated or understood. Our small, dedicated team prides itself in taking a clear and strategic approach to assisting clients and partners to understand and realise the value of the geological asset beneath their site.

The power of dancing to save the planet! If you don't have 10 minutes to watch the full video (though we do recommend it! - you can find the link in the comments), take a look at this 90 second version from CNBC International. It explains how the awesome BODYHEAT system at SWG3 works to provide heating and cooling using the heat from people dancing. Who knew reducing carbon could be so much fun? #geothermal #dance #nightlife #netzero #carbon
“If you have 1,200 people dancing, and you’re capturing the heat from those people dancing, you can heat about 70 houses,” geologist and TownRock Energy CEO David Townsend told CNBC's Converge. ➡️ The Bodyheat system captures the heat produced by patrons at the iconic SWG3 venue in Glasgow, Scotland - and then stores it underground until it needs to be reused. ➡️ A concert attended by 1,200 people produces 800-kilowatt hours of heat in this 6,000 square foot space. ➡️ Heating makes up half of the world’s energy consumption, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Christmas has come to TownRock! 🎅 🎄 ⛳ We had a really lovely team social yesterday playing crazy golf and darts (yes, some of the team are just as competitive as you'd expect them to be!). Followed by dinner at the Salisbury Arms, joined by some of our friends and family. A lovely end to what has been a fantastic year. Don't worry though, we're still working for the next week or so, so we're still here for all your #geothermal (or competitive darts) needs! #christmas #social #teamsocial #crazygolf

What if you could capture energy from the dance floor? 💃🪩🎚️ Well, you can! And CNBC International have produced this awesome video that explains how we do it. We were really pleased to show CNBC around SWG3 a couple of weeks ago and tell them all about our world-first BODYHEAT system. So have a watch of this video, and drop us a message if you have any questions, or even better a venue that you think might benefit from this ground-breaking technology. #geothermal #nightclubs #dancing #netzero #bodyheat #glasgow https://lnkd.in/e-ZkU7KN

Geothermal in Westminster We had the pleasure of being down in Westminster earlier this week for the APPG (All-Party Parliamentary Group) on geothermal energy. It was great to hear from the Minister for Energy Consumers, Miatta Fahnbulleh MP on her portfolio work at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and her priorities for deep geothermal technology. It was also a useful opportunity to hear from others working in the industry, and discuss issues such as de-risking drilling projects, which will be important for the success of the geothermal industry in the UK. As always, we are grateful to everyone at the REA for their work supporting the APPG, and to Dr Kieran Mullan MP for this continued interest in and support for #geothermal.

What do geothermal energy and whisky have in common? 🥃 🔥 Ok, not much, but the The Scotch Malt Whisky Society was a great venue for last week's geothermal drilling training course run by Black Reiver Consulting. It was an incredibly useful four days which has given us the knowledge to be able to ask all the right questions of drillers and well engineers at the planning and drilling stages. It was also great to meet and connect with people working in this area. And the whisky tasting was a lovely bonus! #training #cpd #geothermal #drilling

As well as speaking at the UK Geothermal Symposium last week, we were also really pleased to be able to present a poster at the conference, showing how we use our #geothermal expertise to compare various heating options and evaluate their suitability for a client. Sam Smith presented a poster comparing the suitability of Air Source and Mine Water Source heat pumps as renewable heating solutions in former mining areas of the UK. The bottom line is that Mine Water Heating and Cooling can be a very attractive option in terms of lifetime cost and carbon savings. However, as explained through reference to some TRE case studies, it is always important to carry out a thorough hydrogeological investigation to ensure the solution is site specific and meets the requirements of a particular client.

The UK Geothermal Symposium last week was a great opportunity for us to provide some updates on the work we've been doing recently. Sally Jack presented our findings from being the operator of two of the UK's largest mine water heating schemes, owned by Lanchester Wines. Since becoming operator in 2021, Lanchester Wines and TRE have reconfigured one of the sites to perform optimally, whilst maintaining a proactive approach to improving the regulation of mine water heating systems in England alongside relevant stakeholders. Thanks again to Energy Group - The Geological Society for hosting such an informative conference and allowing us to share our experiences.
