Providing outstanding education, therapy and care to physically disabled young people.

About us

Treloar’s is a charity that provides outstanding education, therapy and care to physically disabled young people, and empowers them to live more independent and fulfilling lives. We support around 180 children and young people, aged 4 to 25 years, who come from across the country to attend our school and college. All of our students are physically disabled, many with complex clinical needs and a sensory impairment. We provide a fully inclusive, supportive environment where young people can learn whilst having therapy and care integrated into their tailored programme. Mainstream settings and most specialist schools and colleges aren’t able to support the complex clinical needs of our students. Therefore, for most, we are one of the very few places, if not the only place in the country where they can access education and achieve outstanding outcomes. We have 6 residential houses on our site, providing placements for students from age 11 upwards. Our residential provision offers huge opportunities to develop independent living skills and enjoy a social life beyond the school and college day. This, in turn, enables our students to experience greater independence and develop confidence working alongside trained support staff and engaging with their peers. Uniquely, we are rated as “Outstanding” across the board with 4 regulators. This includes Ofsted who, in three separate inspections, have graded us “Outstanding” for our school education, college education and social care provision. Additionally, the Care Quality Commission have rated our college residential and clinical services as “Outstanding”. We also offer a range of services, beyond the Campus, to the wider disabled community including residential flats for physically disabled young adults and specialist training for those who support them. Additionally, we hire out our campus facilities to local sports and activity groups and to other disability charities for residential stays during the holidays.

  • Treloar's student Freya enjoyed her sessions working on reception and in the charity office at Cardiac Rehab. Thanks to a specially adapted keyboard, Freya was able to help with administration tasks and particularly enjoyed entering data. She said afterwards: “I loved working at the Cardiac Rehab Centre. My favourite thing was working on the computer.” As a result of these sessions, Freya has developed her work skills further and also her communication skills. #Education #WorkExperience #DisabiltyAwareness #Accessibility #Inclusion

  • Our new Immersive Zone has been incredibly popular with classes from both Treloar School and College. Thanks to interactive projections on the walls and floor, accompanied by scents, students have been transported to various environments, including under the sea, rainforests, deserts, Santa’s grotto and a winter wonderland. This new space, featuring augmented and virtual reality, enables students to explore curriculum topics and lessons. This December, all classes have been enjoying winter-themed sessions. Find out more about the new Immersive Zone on our website: https://lnkd.in/e2VPP57U #ImmersiveLearning #Education #InteractiveLearning #SensoryAndInteractive

  • "Our focus in music lessons this term has been on performing skills such as turn taking, listening and watching, reading a score, performing a solo and as a group, following a conductor and communicating with others. Each of the students here were following a score and playing the correct chords on Clarion to go with the carol ‘Silent Night’. Music lessons can use many core skills alongside the musical ones and we try and develop these in all our lessons." - Jocelyn Watkins, Director of Music at Treloar's In the picture: Treloar School student playing Clarion accompanied by Jocelyn Watkins, Director of Music, on the piano. • On Monday, 2 December, Primary students enjoyed meeting Santa and his elves from Woodlarks Camp Site Trust and spent an afternoon outdoors in Treloar’s Forest School. The success of this event was made possible by the dedicated efforts of Treloar’s corporate volunteers and Andy Brown, Treloar’s Business Partnerships Manager, who played a crucial role in setting up the Grotto and decorating the space, making it look truly beautiful. Sincere thanks to Woodlarks for their generous provision of presents - their support added a special touch to the event, bringing joy and excitement to all the students. #PrimarySchool #PrimaryTeacher #Christmas #SchoolLife

  • On the last Thursday of the term, all students enjoyed practising their PE skills they have learned throughout the term in Tinsel Town PE. The Grinch stole Christmas and took over Santa’s grotto so students needed to wade through the green gunk, practise their racket skills to fend off the green snowballs before rescuing him from the clutches of the Grinch by thinking through the strategy of Elf Jenga and Frisbee Frenzy. A candy cane bout of fencing made sure Santa was back on the ‘nice’ list. It is always excellent to see our students excel and show off their skills they have learned, recognising equipment and transferring actions to different scenarios. #Disability #DisabilityAawareness #DisabilitySport #Spot #PE #PETeacher

  • Treloar’s students have embraced the festive spirit this Christmas by practising their driving skills using one of our Drivedecks decorated as a sleigh. The Drive Deck, or driving platform as it is sometimes called, is used across Treloar's site, from our youngest to our oldest students. It supports learners to gain many skills that can then be used in other learning and leisure activities. We are very lucky to have now a fleet of 3 Drivedecks which means those students who benefit from regular practice have access to using them as required. Huge thanks to The Carmen Benevolent Trust and the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights who both helped fund the Drivedecks. Visit our website to find out more about how we use Drivedecks to help our students develop various skills: https://lnkd.in/e8y95ipE #Disability #Mobility #Education #DisabilityAwareness #Accessibility #OccupationalTherapy
