In November, one in four cars sold in the UK was electric, marking the 11th consecutive month of growth for EV sales. ⚡ But this rise comes with a catch: steep discounts worth around £4bn, as car manufacturers rush to meet tough government EV sales targets. While some companies fall short, the flexibility in regulations means they can buy credits from other manufacturers to avoid penalties, creating an unsustainable market for growth. The government has pledged to meet with carmakers, but concerns remain about the long-term impact on jobs and investment in the sector. What do the new reliability regulations mean for EV charging? ⚡ The government’s Public Charge Point Regulations have officially landed, introducing sweeping changes for charge point operators (CPOs) – from providing clearer pricing in pence per kWh to meeting a bold new standard of 99% uptime across all charge points. These regulations will require the entire EV charging supply chain to evolve.
