#InternationalMensDay , celebrated on the 19th November, is a day dedicated to celebrating the positive influence of men, their contributions to society, and their roles as fathers, mentors, and leaders. The theme for 2024 is “Role Models” exploring the powerful impact that positive male figures can have on individuals, families, and communities. It’s also an invitation for organisations to shine a light on role models who champion diversity and inclusivity in their everyday lives at work as well as at home. Here at Trough-Tec Systems and Hird Rail Development we actively work hard to care for our entire team’s mental health, but we cannot ignore the fact that men’s mental health is something we can really support, given we are a majority male team. Almost all of our team, male and female, have completed Mental Health First Aid Training, to help us know how to look out for others’ mental wellbeing. More recently we worked with Wendy McCristal and Emily Skinder of The Mental Wealth Company Ltd. who ran a workshop with our entire team just last week which highlighted to us the inseparable links between our physical and mental health, and steps we can take for ourselves to recognise and manage stress. Our very own Role Model Kyle Butler (aka our Operations Director) organized this session with MWC, explaining that: “Mental Health, especially men’s mental health, is so important to me. It is a topic I like to discuss with high importance within TTS and the Hird Group. As someone who is currently having counselling sessions, I want to help provide a workplace where everyone can talk freely about their issues without embarrassment. Having sessions like the one we had with The Mental Wealth Company allows all staff to talk and gain valuable knowledge on Mental Health and how to look after ourselves, family, friends and our colleagues.”   Feedback from the workshop proved that everyone found the workshop enjoyable and got a lot out of the day regarding improving their own mental and physical well-being, and many particularly appreciated the opportunity to talk to colleagues about mental health.  #mentalhealth #meantalwealth #itsokaynottobeok #IMD2024 #rolemodels #teamTTS #HaveYouHIRD HIRD Group Rail Forum #humankind #talking Men's Health Forum Doncaster Chamber #HIRDGroup

After our major conference last Tuesday I am looking back on a second significant event last week. Derby City Council's Rail Campus Derby launch attracted over 200 colleagues from across the industry to learn more about the plans for how GBR can add real value to the local area, to the industry and to the wider economy. The audience heard from local leaders, Great British Railways Transition Team (GBRTT) the new East Midlands Combined County Authority Mayor Claire Ward and the Secretary of State for Transport Rt Hon Louise Haigh MP It was great to be able to spend 30 minutes or so introducing the Secretary of State to a number of members and industry colleagues - sorry we didn't get lots of photos there wasn't time to capture everyone but you all did the supply chain and your organisations proud Justin Stroud Daniel Brock Liam Johnston Lucy Prior MBE MSc Darren Smith Helen Simpson Chris Swan Lewis Melia Mervyn Allcock Noel Travers Odis Palmer Elaine Greenwood Harry Kaur and apologies to those I have forgotten!
