So far, we’ve invested £2 million in energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart technologies. This outlay may sound significant, but most of our investments are actually cashflow neutral or cashflow positive. We use our energy savings to cover loan repayments.” Crystal Doors has since achieved a host of green business awards, including the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development in 2021. Their net zero journey started in 2015, when their plan to install a biomass burner to heat their factory and offices was refused planning permission. Both of these factors helped convince Richard Hagan that it was the best time to invest in sustainability strategies that could save Crystal Doors money and secure the business’s future. #NetZero

"73% of organisations are prioritising net zero, but over half face barriers" These are the findings of a recent census completed by the UK Business Climate Hub, in the largest ever UK industry study. According to the study of over 2,000 businesses across various sectors, 15% class the transition to Net Zero as an 'extremely high priority'. A further 28% recorded the transition as a 'high priority', plus 30% as a 'medium-level focus'. From the report, businesses surveyed named their top motivations for cutting emissions: 1. Contributing to tackling climate change 2. Organisational reputation / public opinion 3. Demonstrating industry leadership This is a positive reminder for why Net Zero North West's mission is so important. At the heart of our organisation is the belief that collaboration is key to achieving our net zero ambitions and creating a safer, more sustainable future for our region.
