A busy week in the Scotland Office, continuing to work with Scottish communities to deliver on our four priorities ⬇️ Economic Growth, Green Energy, Brand Scotland, and Tackling Poverty.

The Regional Skills Pilot aims to support British workers across four regions. Funding could go towards new training centres, courses or career advisers - supporting local people into opportunities in industries such as welding, electrical engineering, and construction. The Energy Skills Passport tool will support offshore workers right across the UK. Those seeking to move from the oil and gas sector will be able to identify transferable skills by accessing the skills passport online 👷♀️✅ We caught up with workers from OW Ocean Winds, Statkraft and RWE to find out why they decided to make the transition to working in renewable energy and how others can follow in the same footsteps. The UK Government's Make Work Pay plan is at the heart of the mission to grow the economy, raise living standards across the country and create opportunities. We've selected four UK regions for our Energy Skills Pilot to support British workers looking to move to clean energy jobs and we are supporting the industry-led digital skills passport tool. Aberdeen, West Cheshire & Chester, North and North-East Lincolnshire and Pembrokeshire have been identified as key areas where local partners will conduct a skills gap evaluation ✅ The digital skills passport tool led by RenewableUK and Offshore Energies UK and backed by the UK and Scottish governments will help oil and gas workers transition to the offshore wind sector 🧑🏭 This is part of our Plan for Change and mission to get to clean power by 2030, boost energy security and reignite industrial heartlands. Burns Night celebrations began early at the Scotland Office with a reception last night to celebrate Scotland's rich contribution to economic growth & society through business, innovation, academia, charity, and the arts. 💬 Scotland Office Minister Kirsty McNeill said: "Bringing together so many of those who represent what is truly great about Scotland is a fantastic way to celebrate Burns Night. It's a real privilege to be able to gather with and thank such a diverse range of achievers for all they do for Scotland and the UK. "They - and the global legacy of Robert Burns - are truly inspirational as we deliver a decade of national renewal, including through our Brand Scotland campaign to champion Scotland and Scottish businesses around the world."

Reading and literacy skills are absolutely crucial for whatever path you choose to take in life. Congratulations to Wester Hailes High School, which achieved Core Reading School status this week! Run by The Scottish Book Trust, the accreditation programme helps schools build and sustain a reading culture with their pupils 📚 Minister Kirsty McNeill MP visited the school to mark the achievement and meet with some of the students to chat about what they're currently reading (mostly Warrior Cats!) She said "Literacy is a crucial tool in breaking cycles of poverty and by working together we can ensure no community is left behind in Scotland's future success.”

We've issued the first licence for a vertical launch from UK soil 🚀 Rocket Factory Augsburg - RFA has approval to launch from SaxaVord Spaceport. Through effective regulation and monitoring, we're enabling the expanding UK space sector to reach new heights.
