Happy New Year! This week, the UKHospitality team was back out in full force. We attended Parliament for a MP drop-in session to show support for the Licensing Hours Extension Bill being brought by Andrew Ranger MP. We held a membership team day at Lucky Saint | B Corp™ to reflect on 2024 and plan for 2025. Our CEO Kate Nicholls OBE spoke to ITV News about the introduction of the Electronic Travel Authorisation, a new requirement for people visiting the UK, and our concerns about the lack of awareness of the scheme. In Scotland, news this week was dominated by the Edinburgh Visitor Levy report, and our UKHospitality Scotland Executive Director, Leon Thompson MCIPR was on STV Group plc responding to the Levy. In Wales, we responded to the Senedd's consultation on the draft Visitor Levy legislation and met with the Welsh Economy Minister to discuss the pressures the sector is facing. Yesterday, the Electronic Travel Authorisation scheme came into effect, a new requirement for travellers entering the UK. Our CEO Kate Nicholls OBE raised concerns about the lack of awareness of the scheme to ITV News. "We're concerned that lots of tourists don't know that they need it". Today we’re in Parliament discussing Andrew Ranger’s Licensing Hours Extensions Bill with MPs. The bill will allow the Government to more easily extend licensing hours for hospitality businesses in times of national importance. 🍻

By 31 March 2025, Simpler Recycling will require the collection of the same materials from all non-household municipal premises (such as hospitality businesses). The default requirement will be four containers for: - Residual (non-recyclable) waste - Food waste (including garden waste if appropriate) - Paper and card - All other dry recyclable materials (plastic, metal and glass).
