Today I had the great privilege of joining the Dental Leadership Network meeting hosted by the GDC. The theme ‘Workforce – How many dental professionals are enough?’ was explored by a number of dental leaders including the BDA, CDO’s, academics, educators, dental groups, public health and dental associations to name just a few. The great news is we have full employment across dentistry, but the resulting challenge is how do we entice more dental professionals to work within populations rather than just location? Lots of great debate around education, skill mix, scope of practice and workforce issues. One suggestion was that Dentistry needs to be more of a team sport. To do this dental professionals have to not only think about their own role, but how they leverage the roles of the wider dental team. This extends to the dental industry as a team player in improving oral health. #DentalLeaders

Our director Gail has shared some great insights with the team today after attending this roundtable organised by The Office of the Chief Dental Officer as the president of The British Dental Industry Association.
Great session today at the CDO England's Oral Health Societies and Associations Roundtable event in London, with over 35 different groups represented. Great speakers with thought provoking content and round table discussions. This event was proudly supported by the British Dental Industry Association (BDIA). It is really important the dental industry also has a seat at the table as we are all aligned in helping the entire dental team deliver the best service to their patients.
Our managing director Gail Vernon, also President of the British Dental Industry Association hosted this year's conference last week. VSM know how important it is to have the right information to make something successful. We are always in the room where it happens!
We certainly were in the room where it happened at this year's BDIA conference! Like the song from the Broadway show Hamilton and the Compromise of 1790. Those not in the room were unsure of what was said, and decisions were made without the full knowledge of what went on. The lyrics include that 'No one really knows - How the game is played - The art of the trade or How the sausage gets made.' They just made assumptions to what happened. Not the case for our delegates!
In Newcastle today supporting Colgate as they partner with BSODR. Day 1 started with the prestigious Graham Embery lecture delivered this year by Professor Abigail Tucker. Professor Tucker shared her fascinating work on naturally occurring replacement teeth in the animal kingdom including pythons, posing the question about transferring the findings to humans potentially leading to a 3rd set of teeth. This afternoon, it's the presentations for the Junior and Senior Colgate prizes. Great first day and looking forward to the Early Career Researcher Breakfast tomorrow.
