Advanced sustainable membranes and innovative filtration systems for the production of valuable minerals and clean water
About us
Watercycle Technologies Ltd is a UK-based deep tech company focused on developing sustainable, high-yield, low-cost, mineral extraction and water treatment systems. Able to treat highly concentrated water, its core technology is an end-to-end solution spanning mineral extraction, concentration and crystallisation. This is initially being utilised in lithium production from sub surface water and brines, lithium-ion spent battery recycling, which is particularly relevant with regards to the current global transition towards a Circular Economy, and advanced desalination systems. The Company is committed to reducing the environmental cost of mineral extraction and increasing the availability of clean water. With a strong ethics-based business model, Watercycle is positioned to deliver profitable commercial solutions centred on sustainability, environmental protection, and remediation. Its experienced R&D team, led by Dr Seb Leaper and Dr Ahmed Abdelkarim, is targeting industries including mining, desalination, agriculture, textiles, and food and beverage. Importantly, the modular technology delivers dramatic reductions in costs and carbon emissions with the main by-product being fresh potable water.

We’re thrilled to share the news that Watercycle Technologies has successfully closed a $5.6 million Series A funding round led by Par Equity and supported by Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Aer Ventures and the University of Manchester Innovation Factory! These funds will enable us to continue the development of our technology and rapidly scale up the deployment of our sustainable mineral recovery systems. In two years, we have seen immense growth. We have: • Grown our team from 2 to 13 • Successfully deployed and operated a pre-commercial pilot scale system • Scaled up our processes to produce 100kg of battery-grade lithium carbonate • Received international recognition through multiple partnerships • Expanded our range of extractable minerals for solid and liquid input streams • Won multiple highly-competitive grants • Further strengthened our intellectual property by filling multiple patents With new partners and continued support from current investors, we are poised to bring transformational change to the critical minerals market. We are excited about the work ahead of us and look forward to starting straight away. Thank you to our hard-working and dedicated team, our investors and everyone who has supported Watercycle’s vision to develop a sustainable supply chain to power a greener future. We are excited to announce that 100kg of lithium carbonate at >99.5% purity has been produced from UK brines in our pilot plant facility! Watercycle Technologies is one of the first in Europe to achieve these quantities of high-purity lithium carbonate onsite. This marks a significant milestone, demonstrating Watercycle’s ability to produce products at industrial scale. The growing demand for lithium, a critical mineral central to the production of EVs and currently in short global supply, is putting increased pressure on battery manufacturers. As we consider what countries and industries need to transition to Net Zero, de-risking the battery supply chain by reducing import reliance is crucial to ensuring a steady production of battery materials for the European markets. We believe Watercycle can disrupt the UK’s battery mineral supply chain through our innovative technology. Our team has been working tirelessly to achieve this milestone. We’d especially like to acknowledge the efforts and hard work of Mathew Rockey, Adel Abdelkader and Chinmay Kulkarni. We would like to extend our thanks to Cornish Lithium Plc, Innovate UK and HTS Engineering Group Ltd for their support and contribution to building this pilot system. We’re proud to be a part of the Revitalise project, an EU-funded project aiming to redefine lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery recycling. Check out this feature article to find out more about how Watercycle Technologies is contributing to this research.
📢 In today's Partner Spotlight, we have Watercycle Technologies which is a deep-tech startup. Their main focus is on sustainable mineral recovery from brines, industrial wastewater, and end-of-life batteries. The team at Watercycle Technologies aims to develop a cost-effective and high-yield solution to extract the full value of a battery's components along with ensuring compliance with effluent discharge regulations. They will also explore the use of green solvents for battery recycling. Additionally, the team will address the waste streams generated during the recycling process to economically and profitably extract lithium salts that were previously discarded due to low concentrations in the waste stream. Watercycle Technologies efforts support the efficient repurposing of existing materials, driving the circular economy and contributing to a Net Zero future. 👉 To know more about how Watercycle Technologies helps the REVITALISE project achieve its objectives, please click the link below. https://lnkd.in/gvntVDVp Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) REELEMENTS Verkor Norsk Hydro University of Münster EURECAT Iconiq Innovation University of Birmingham BATTERY 2030+
