Ultra-light fibre intervention for rapid well surveillance.

About us

Ultra-Light Fibre Intervention for Rapid Well Surveillance.   FiberLine Intervention (FLI) from Well-SENSE uses bare fibre-optic technology to capture distributed temperature and acoustic measurements along the entire length of the well in real time. The data creates a rich well profile and can monitor changing conditions, irregularities, anomalies or events, to deliver greater insight for completion, production, integrity and abandonment operations.   Compared to other forms of well surveillance, the cost and run-time are dramatically reduced. Surveys can be completed in just a few hours, requiring only one person at the wellsite. The equipment is hand-portable, compact and lightweight with a tiny wellsite footprint. The FLI probe and fibre are single-use and sacrificial so can be left in the well at the end of the survey. FLI has three key attributes:   - Surveys are fast: Typically, rig-up to rig-down takes just a few hours, reducing surveillance time by up to 80%. - The footprint is tiny: FLI uses very little space and few services at the well site making it ideal for difficult to access wells, crowded facilities and offline intervention, while reducing the CO2 footprint.  - Datasets are information rich: Speed and simplicity do not come at the expense of capability. Quality, distributed data is rapidly processed to inform future actions, improving operational efficiency and outcome. • Today we were delighted to announced the appointment of Steve Kent to the position of Chief Executive Officer. Mr Kent joins forces with Stuart Ferguson and Graeme Coutts, who have taken up the positions of Executive Chairman and Executive Director respectively, as well as Neil McGuinness, Frank Summers, Colin Smith and Richard Pugh who continue in their existing roles. Our strategic board reshuffle is designed to maximise senior commercial talent ahead of strong anticipated growth. The FrontRow Energy Technology Group, which includes Unity, DTI, Well-SENSE and ClearWELL, is focused on delivering value to the energy industry by solving production and decommissioning challenges through innovation and new technology. Mr Kent said: “FrontRow has an exceptional portfolio of energy technology businesses with huge potential for value creation. My focus will be on creating value through international growth, market positioning and stakeholder connectivity. “Here in Aberdeen the engineering talent is exceptional and we need to anchor these skills long-term in the region. There is a general perception that the North Sea oil and gas industry is in a state of steady decline, but the reality is that Aberdeen is a global city servicing global energy demand, with an exciting multi-decade opportunity in decommissioning ahead. This is a key decarbonisation mechanism, but it requires talent, technology and investment. “Technology incubation has transitioned from the domain of operators down the supply chain, and is now primarily championed by tech start-ups, but the missing part of the equation is access to growth capital. FrontRow will continue to invest, grow and drive value creation across its portfolio, collaborating with stakeholders to help tackle some of the industry’s biggest challenges to date.” Mr Kent is an accomplished C-Suite executive with over 30 years of entrepreneurial leadership in the global oil and gas service sector. His early career was spent in international technical and management roles at Schlumberger, Weatherford and Petroline. Subsequently he built a strong track record in high-growth business management, strategic innovation, successful investment and M&A activities, and co-founded the energy services investor EPI-V in 2007. He joins FrontRow following a tenure as Executive Chairman at Deep Casing Tools having recently facilitated its successful acquisition by the US corporation Drilling Tools International. Under Mr Kent’s leadership, Deep Casing Tools was recognised as one of the fastest growing UK technology companies in the Deloitte Fast Fifty Awards 2023 and won a prestigious Kings Award for Export earlier this year. 💡 On Demand Fibre Surveys in CCS Wells 💡 At the Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (#APOGCE) in Perth next week (15-17 Oct), Chevron will be presenting a paper which demonstrates the benefits of FiberLine Intervention (#FLI) in carbon capture (#CCUS) projects.   FLI was used at Chevron Australia’s Gorgon Project - a carbon capture facility, on Barrow Island. We deployed FLI probes across multiple wells to simultaneously capture distributed seismic and temperature data. Offset vertical seismic profiles (#VSP) and passive seismic data provided insights into the dynamic plume migration below the cap rock from injected CO2. The temperature profiles delivered a post injection warm-back image of the reservoir, enabling an increased understanding of the formation’s connectivity, flow paths and flow rates. This approach has many benefits for formation and integrity evaluation, not least an on-demand, cost-effective strategy that minimises the impact on facility operations.   The full paper (SPE-221097) will be available on OnePetro after the event but a related paper from Chevron and Curtin University, which includes the specific benefits of FLI’s seismic survey, can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eN5DJzTt You can register for the event here: https://lnkd.in/eHA9PsTy  Alternatively, please get in touch with our team for more information on FLI's CCS applications: info@well-sense.co.uk

R&D Solutions successfully tackled complex well profiling, leakage verification, and perforation near residential areas and a busy freeway by coordinating specialist companies. Partnering with Onetide, they used a Mobile Microgrid to provide silent, renewable power, eliminating the need for diesel logistics. For well profiling, they employed Well-SENSE Fibre Line Intervention (FLI), a faster, high-resolution method that reduces rig time and enhances safety with a compact design.  FLI results guided the use of Lee Energy Systems’ pyrotechnic-free Gator Tools for precise, multi-zone perforation. This project highlights R&D Solutions' expertise in delivering safe, efficient, and environmentally sound solutions through collaboration.
