This October and November, G.A.S. Foundation hosted a diverse cohort of residents in both Lagos and Ikise, including artists Shabu Mwangi, Kosisochukwu Nnebe, Ofem Ubi, and Avery Youngblood; researchers Liz Kobusinge and Theophilus Imani; and Osei Bonsu, Curator of International Art at Tate Modern. Their practices—spanning painting, sculpture, eco-printing, and visual research—engaged with themes of postcolonial histories, cultural memory, and social change. Join us to reflect on these residencies and the public events that showcased their diverse creative inquiries. About us
We provide facilities and support (to African, African diaspora and international artists, researchers, scholars and other creative individuals), in the research and development of their skills in the Liberal and Fine Arts, Creative Industries, Environment and Agriculture fields of study and practice. We run annual programmes of residencies and fellowship residencies for artists and curators at Guest Artists Space Foundation (GAS) a purpose built residence and studio in Lagos, an eco Farm in Ijebu Nigeria and Guest Projects space in London. During the last couple of years we have run these digitally. The programme supports trans-continental working relationships, establishing sustainable networks between the interdisciplinary practitioners, researchers, local and global communities. Supporting partnerships and collaboration across multiple disciplines, countries and cultures (across the fields of contemporary art, design, architecture, conservation, agriculture, environmental and curatorial practices). Encouraging cultural exchange and deeper knowledge between Africa and the rest of the world to promote mutual understanding of cultural differences through developing exchange programmes, hosting exhibitions, talks, workshops, events and performances and collaborating with cultural institutions in Nigeria, Africa and the rest of the world.

Congratulations to 2022 G.A.S. Fellow and Alumnus, Samuel Nnorom, who also emerged as the inaugural winner of the M&C Saatchi Group Art for Change Prize in 2022. His new solo, titled 'Multitude or Minority' is showing at Saatchi Gallery until 24 November 2024. Nnorom's sculptures, woven from salvaged Ankara fabric, explore the "social fabric" that binds humanity—values, traditions, and identities interwoven like cloth. Inspired by the fleeting nature of bubbles, his works reveal moments of tension, adaptation, and resilience. Through intricate layers and ribboned forms, he reimagines the bubble as a symbol of collective survival and connection.
