  • Tracking the market share of bio-based chemicals in water treatment | Where is growth expected? 💧 📈 Driven by growing concern with scope 2 and 3 emissions and a preference for greener products - as well as performance increasingly comparable to their conventional predecessors - the market for bio-based chemicals is on the rise. The European Union has paved the way for bio-based chemistry with various bioeconomy initiatives and new measures to tax the carbon content of imported chemicals. Most of the market currently lies in Europe and North America, but strong growth is expected in Asia and the Middle East. While much of this spending is currently in wastewater applications, falling costs are also leading to strong uptake in the sludge, cooling and desalination markets. See detailed breakdowns of market sizes and growth rates by application, region and chemical type on GWI WaterData. Book your guided tour of our chemicals coverage here: https://lnkd.in/d2eTfFSv #Chemicals #WasteWater #Desalination

  • More than $1 billion of equity capital has been invested into water technology companies so far in 2024, over $150 million more than last year! 🚰 🏅 Digital solutions have attracted the highest volume of funding, as ageing infrastructure and inflationary concerns drive the adoption of software that enables digital asset mapping and pipeline condition assessment. At the same time, changing climate patterns – combined with water scarcity – have given new urgency to digital solutions offering irrigation efficiency. Direct lithium extraction from brines are not far behind in terms of overall funding volumes, thanks to chunky rounds from Lilac Solutions and XtraLit, while investment into membrane technologies continues to be robust. Solutions focusing on the circular economy – ranging from nutrient recovery to brine mining – also attracted significant capital.
