We’re proud to share the successful completion of a high-profile renewable energy project at Cornwall Council’s headquarters in Truro! As part of the Council’s Net Zero 30 strategy, this initiative showcases how innovation and collaboration can drive positive change. Over six months, as Principal Contractor, Lorne Stewart Facilities worked closely with Cornwall-based engineers and our SME supply chain to deliver: Installation of 543 solar panels, generating 200,000 kWh of clean electricity annually – enough to power 74 homes! Construction of solar canopies over the visitor and pool vehicle car parks. Integration of EV charging points, resurfacing, and relining for 62 parking spaces, including disabled and EV-friendly bays. Enhanced security with 20 CCTV cameras mounted on the canopies. The project culminated with a seamless one-day electrical shutdown, connecting the panels to the building’s generator. These efforts will provide lower-cost, renewable energy for New County Hall for years to come! A huge thank you to our dedicated teams, contractors, and Cornwall Council for their commitment to sustainability. Committed to delivering sustainable decarbonisation solutions across a wide range of sectors, in June 2024 we started works for a major decarbonisation project at Petroc College in Barnstaple – one of a series of projects being delivered with Hi Group, where we are leading a transformative journey toward a greener future. Project highlights include; building a cutting-edge energy centre and heat network, installing and commissioning five Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) with a bespoke pump enclosure, rolling out rooftop Solar PV systems across existing buildings, as well as integrating new system controls with a robust BMS interface. Last week, our certified drone operator and Asset Manager, Dave Mason, captured stunning images showcasing our team’s progress, revealing; the intricate solar PV installations, supported by custom-designed scaffolding for safe and efficient rooftop operations, as well as the newly installed air source heat pumps, strategically placed for optimal performance and easy future maintenance. Built for resilience, this project design ensures seamless integration of existing heating systems, complementing the ASHPs during peak demand or unexpected outages. On track for completion January 2025, a big ‘thank you’ goes to our talented teams driving this project forward and making sustainable change a reality. Together, we are building a cleaner, greener future! This Saturday, 7th December, one of our Contract Managers, Dan Blewitt, will take on an incredible challenge in memory of his neighbour and friend, Josh, who tragically passed away at just 17 years old after contracting Lyme Disease. Dan, who runs our South Central Ambulance NHS Trust contract, will join Josh’s friends and family for the Endurance Life Dorset Challenge. Together, they’ll tackle some of the most demanding trails on the breathtaking yet unforgiving Jurassic Coast Path. Participants will push their limits, covering distances ranging from 10k to a full marathon, and scaling up to 4,692 ft of ascent to honour Josh’s adventurous spirit and 'BeMoreJosh.’ Let’s rally together to support this heartfelt cause. By raising awareness of Lyme Disease and funding vital research, we can help prevent similar tragedies and keep Josh’s memory alive. Donate here: https://lnkd.in/dkb7bEVn Join us in cheering on Dan and the team as they tackle this formidable challenge for an incredibly worthy cause. The collaborative efforts between Cornwall Council, Lorne Stewart Facilities, and our fantastic contractors – GwellaContracting Services and Infinite Services – truly made a meaningful impact at Cornwall Hospice Care in St Austell. By coming together to paint newly plastered warehouse walls and sort through clothing donations for distribution to Hospice Care shops across Cornwall, we not only supported a valuable cause but also demonstrated the power of teamwork and community spirit. It was heartwarming to see everyone enjoying the day, with the atmosphere made even brighter by Suzi and Nina’s delicious homemade cakes and some classic Cornish pasties from a local bakery! This initiative shows that when people unite for a cause, the social value created is enriched by shared experiences and camaraderie. A huge thanks to all involved for your hard work and dedication – truly a job well done! Erica Vitai Philanthropy Manager, Cornwall Hospice Care commented: “On behalf of us all at Cornwall Hospice Care, I wanted to send a huge thank you to you and the team for giving us so much time on Friday – you all did an amazing job painting our warehouse and helping us to sort through some of the donations we receive. We have a team of 1,000+ volunteers who help us in so many ways including at our Hospices, in our shops and at our fundraising events. The Hospice retail team raise £1.65 million each year, but we couldn’t do this without people like you checking our donations and the newly refurbished warehouse will make this a much more comfortable experience for everyone!” Lorne Stewart Group Making the difference through collaboration and social value #Teamwork #SocialValue #CommunitySupport #Collaboration #CornwallHospiceCare #LorneStewartFacilities #CornwallCouncil #MakingTheDifference

At Lorne Stewart, we believe that innovation isn't just about new technology, it's about fresh thinking, proactive solutions, and making a real difference in challenging environments. That's why we're thrilled to recognise Deane Newton, Hard FM Contract Supervisor, for his exceptional work in addressing a recurring building fabric issue within a complex adult social care setting in Cornwall. Deane’s forward-thinking approach balanced cost-effective repairs, health and safety considerations, and our collective safeguarding responsibilities. His ability to ‘think outside the box’ has not only improved the quality of repairs but also helped safeguard vulnerable individuals. A special shout out to Katherine from the Council's Adult Social Care team in Cornwall, who praised Deane's ingenuity: “As part of a complex situation with repairing a property, Deane has thought differently about how we can support the residents and minimise damage to the property. He showed creativity and demonstrated what reasonable adjustments are all about… thank you and well done, Deane!” Lorne Stewart Group Making the Difference through Innovation and Social Value #Innovation #FacilitiesManagement #HardFM #AdultSocialCare #TeamWork #LorneStewart #InnovationInAction #Safeguarding #BuildingSolutions #SocialValue
