Happy birthday, everyone! On this day, in 1845, the Queen’s Colleges of Belfast, Cork and Galway were formally brought into existence. Did you know we actually have two birthdays? One on 30 December and an earlier one on 2 December, marking the day when we were granted the Charter to become a university in our own right. Thank you to everyone who has helped make Queen's the special place it is. Watch this space for more news on our celebrations as we enter our 180th year. As 2024 draws to a close, I want to thank our staff and students for making Queen's University Belfast such a special place to study, to live and to work. Delighted to be able to contribute and share some practical approaches to EDI. It's something that, as academics, we're very good at trying to improve and do well for our students. However, when it comes to doing the same for ourselves and colleagues, we often fall a little short. Often though, not intentionally. Meet Carlos Sanha, this year's winner of the MRANI "𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻" award. Carlos has played a key role in improving the wellbeing of schoolchildren across Northern Ireland. Through his work with HIP Psychology, Carlos delivered creative workshops designed to teach practical life skills, helping young people build confidence, navigate challenges as well as improve their emotional and social wellbeing. His kindness, understanding, and ability to connect with young people have made him a role model for both the children he helps and his team. We are proud to celebrate Carlos as this year's "Inspiring Champion" for his incredible achievements and commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. #MRANI #MRANIAwards #InspiringChampion
