Huge congratulations to Creative Manchester at The University of Manchester and partners The Portico Library, Manchester Central Library, Chetham's Library, Manchester Poetry Library, John Rylands Library and Institute for winning best event at the Manchester Culture Awards on Saturday, 23 November, for the Festival of Libraries. What a transformative gift to help us change lives for the better. The $1.3 million donation by alumna Judith Sear to create the Sear Family Cancer Research Fund will establish a new cancer research fund. The first stage will be to fund a PhD focusing on improving outcomes for lung cancer sufferers. The donation was made to the North American Foundation for The University of Manchester, of which Judith and her late husband Tim were active supporters. University Partners with English National Opera The University of Manchester is delighted to announce a new collaboration with English National Opera. The ENO Greater Manchester partnership, which includes projects across the city region, covers every aspect of opera production and celebrates new possibilities for the art form. This announcement represents the beginning of longer-term strategic partnerships with venues and organisations across Greater Manchester. Professor John McAuliffe, Director of Creative Manchester at The University of Manchester, said: “The University of Manchester is delighted to be working in partnership with colleagues at ENO as part of their move to the city region. Earlier this year I was invited to work on a project with with Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills) & IOE - UCL's Faculty of Education and Society staff on the intersection between research and policy. We held a symposium at the annual conference of the British Educational Research Association. As we plan our programme for 2025, we have learned that we have won a Best Presentation Award: https://lnkd.in/eDN374pe Very encouraging and excited for our future collaborations!
