Renewables, specifically wind energy, are at the forefront of global’s energy shift towards less emission.  Wind energy location can be placed on both land and sea, providing a wide range of choices for developers. Wind farm turbines are intricately built with support systems and connected to each other by submarine cable systems. Like electrical wires in households, proper connections ensure our safety. Secured cable connections are extremely important and should be performed by verified jointers. Errors on these connections can potentially ruin the entire route if not detected early.      Currently, all TDEC jointers are trained and verified by various cable suppliers around the world. 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗣 – 𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗔𝗡 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 Last weekend, we completed the cable pulling work to Tan Cang station with the participation of more than 20 personnel and specialized equipment including crane trucks, forklifts, tractors,...   The size of an underground cable coil (drum) could be much larger if not for the limits of transportation. The cross-section diameter of the cable in this project is hundreds of times larger than the one of the electrical wires in our home. Each cable drum can weigh up to 17 tons.   Performing work of such requires the experience of team leaders and team efforts. Besides strength and dexterity, coordination among team members is also required to operate smoothly. And we are proud of the working culture and experience at TDEC, which we have built for the past 28 years.   With the completion of the cable installation, our project is about to enter its final stage. It is an important stage to test and ensure that the cable will work reliably long-term. 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗝𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧'𝗦 𝗚𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗡 𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗛 𝗦𝗔𝗜𝗚𝗢𝗡 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗚𝗘?     Saigon Bridge (before 1975 also known as Tan Cang Bridge) is one of the bridges across the Saigon River connecting Dien Bien Phu Street (Binh Thanh District) with Vo Nguyen Giap Street (Thu Duc City), Ho Chi Minh City. Before the completions of Thu Thiem tunnel and Thu Thiem bridge, Saigon Bridge was  the main gateway to Ho Chi Minh City Center from the north and east parts of the city. Currently, Saigon Bridge continues to be one of the important gateways to go to central Saigon from the East.      TDEC team is constructing an underground cable route with a length of 5.5km, including a 370m section underneath Saigon Bridge (river crossing). The cable will go along the length of the bridge and then lower return to underground. Currently, we are currently installing HDPE pipes by pulling across one end. Subsequently, HV cables will be pulled through HDPE pipes to ensure longevity and avoid external weather conditions.     With 80 meters in height, Saigon bridge was designed to allow cargo ships to pass underneath. Our job at this stage is inherently risky as the job requires us to be at 80 meters height during the operation. The expert and staff directly involved in this stage requires a ‘steel’ spirit and experience. We always ensure safety of TDEC’s team as our priority by using safety equipments and measures.     In addition, this area’s scenery is captivating as view of city skyline from afar, and with boats passing by from below. The task connecting cable end to pillar and fiber optic cable welding became difficult to complete the job precisely in the cold weather. Despite the challenges, the final stages of the project were successfully completed.      On March 28th, a training on DTS operation was provided at 220kV Chem substation as the cable route ran accross the urban area of Hoai Duc district, Hanoi. This is the first underground cable temperature monitoring system connected to 220kV Chem substation. The project consists of two sections of 220kV HV, underground cables with a total length of 4.8km, with underground optical fiber directly connecting to overhead line optical fiber. The entire transmission line is approximately 27km long.     In the webinar training, was gladly joined by operators, substation managers and officials of Hanoi Power Transmission unit. After more than 4 hours of theory, error simulations  and the support of experts from AP Sensing , the operation guide ended at 18:00 on the same day.     We, TDEC team always strive to not only pioneer in electrical underground system installation. 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝟐𝟐𝟎𝐊𝐕 𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐂𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐒𝐘𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌 𝐈𝐍 𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐓𝐍𝐀𝐌  220kV Tao Dan - Nha Be underground cable system and 220kV Tao Dan substation have marked an important step forward in the field of electricity supply in Vietnam.  Started on 16/5/2003 and commissioned on 10/12/2004, this was the first 220kV underground project in Vietnam, allowing new transmission capacity for Ho Chi Minh city at the time.  The project has a total length of 10km, including a 3.7km over headline section and 6.3km of underground cable. The toal designed maximum load transfer is 1,000MVA. The cable route is installed along the North-South Highway (District 7) through Rach Bang bridge and Kenh Te bridge, along Khanh Hoi Street and Ben Nghe River.  The investment capital for the project was borrowed from the World Bank with 46 million USD, and domestic concessional loans. This is the first power source project in the country that  combines the goal of improving power  supply reliability without disturbing urban landscape. The project was completed with new products such as Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), 220kV cable and accessories. After 20 years of smooth operation, TDEC team feel honored to be part of this first HV, underground project in Vietnam.
