Putting play at the heart of Vietnam’s new curriculum. In 2018, Vietnam’s Ministry of Education launched a new competency-based school curriculum. By swapping rote learning for applied learning and discovery, the change would set up children to adapt and thrive. But it called for a new way of teaching. And a new way of thinking from parents who thought their children needed ‘traditional’ learning to get high grades. That’s where VVOB’s Play-based Learning Activities for Young Learners project came in. In 2023, VVOB trained more than 150,000 primary teachers with an e-course backed by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET). And they hosted Play Days to help over 4,400 parents see the power of learning through play for themselves. Today teachers, families and children all feel a difference. Lessons are more joyful. Students are more engaged. And families who try playful learning at home say they feel more connected, too.

  • On December 12, 2024, the 2024 Annual Review and 2025 Planning Workshop for the TALK Project took place in Hanoi. The workshop was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training, the Center for Early Childhood Education Research under the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, leaders and staff from Provincial and District Departments of Education and Training, as well as school leaders and preschool teachers from the three project provinces: Hà Giang, Quảng Trị, and Gia Lai, additionally, leading educational experts from top universities and teacher training colleges in Vietnam.  The workshop served as an opportunity to reflect on the key achievements of 2024 and to align on three strategic priorities for 2025: 1) Sustaining and strengthening effective practices in the cohort 1 districts. 2) Expanding impactful interventions and practices to new districts. 3) Enhancing support for school leaders through professional learning communities. When girls lose out on their #education, the world loses out on a safer, more equal future. Educated women are more likely to secure financial independence, reducing their vulnerability to control, exploitation and violence. Each additional year of education can boost a woman’s income by up to 20% (UN Women, 2020). Financial autonomy strengthens decision-making power, making women less likely to experience intimate partner violence and empowering them to build safer, healthier lives. This #16Days, let’s recognise education not just as a right, but as a critical strategy to combat gender-based violence and foster gender equality. 🔗 Explore more evidence in the "Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The Gender Snapshot 2022" report by UN Women and United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs: https://lnkd.in/e-bx4AMq #16DaysofActivism #NoExcuse #EndGBV #SDG4 #SDG5 UN Girls' Education Initiative (UNGEI) FAWE
