Furniture is the soul of any home; that’s why the pieces that we inherit from our family and hold onto our whole lives carry such emotional weight. Sometimes, though, you just want to buy that brand-spanking-new, super-chic coffee table you saw in the window of a furniture shop. Or you want to order a statement sofa or bed to celebrate moving house. Furniture is by no means the most affordable thing to buy for your home, so the best January furniture Sales come in particularly handy if you’re looking to upgrade a room without spending a fortune. After all, shopping for the best sofa, the best dining table or best mattress takes a lot more planning and thought than a spontaneous purchase of some £100 trainers.

New furniture is also the kind of investment that will make a pretty major difference to your life for years to come, whether you’re after a new bed, dining furniture or a two-seater sofa to snuggle up on – and that’s why we love the furniture sales so much. With some of the best furniture stores offering bargains at the moment, as well as the best January mattress sales and best January home deals ongoing, it’s a great time of year to get looking for some new bits for your house, all while saving money doing so. To help you make the right purchases, we’ve included a few of our favourite pieces from each of the best furniture sales below. No matter what your grail piece might be, or which specific corner of which specific room you’re struggling to furnish properly, there’s something to pique the interest of anyone and everyone.

Amazon sale: Sitewide deals on office chairs, standing desks and various items

While Amazon’s Prime Day sales from July and October have come and gone, as have Black Friday and Cyber Monday, January is here and ready to delight. There are also plenty of deals to be found on the platform outside of these shopping holidays. From hot tubs and indoor furnishings to everything you need to get your home office in shape (we're talking office chairs and standing desks galore), plenty of deals are still live. And the advantage of shopping well in advance of Christmas is you don't need to worry about delivery chaos and stock issues that can crop up in the rush to buy gifts.

Dusk sale: Up to 15% off in the Dusk sale with extra 25% off sofas

Dusk is one of our favourite bedding brands, managing to keep the quality high while also being on the more affordable end of the spectrum. Rather than spending nearly £100 on sheets, duvets and towels, you'll be looking at a much more reasonable price, though the fabric and material feels much more expensive. If you fancy taking your interior decorating to another level, Dusk also has a range of sofas, mattresses and bed frames that are well worth a browse. Most of them are currently on sale, too.

When are the best furniture sales of the year?

The good news for interiors enthusiasts is that there are excellent sales all throughout the calendar year. January, for example, is among the cheapest months in which to buy furniture because sales – which often began in December with the Boxing Day sales or during the best Cyber Monday deals 2024 – continue throughout the month. And, of course, Black Friday offers an almost overwhelming number of sales and discounts from which to choose.

The winter is generally an excellent time to buy furniture for this reason, as well as the fact that you’re likely to spend a lot of time indoors in the cold, dark months. If it’s icy and windy outside, all the better to have a proper sofa and/or bed in which to hide and watch films. Then, as things warm up, the summer sees sales too, in the months where people might traditionally be abroad or on holiday – retailers want to keep moving their products, so offer significant incentives. Keep checking in year-round with our favourite stores for the best deals and discounts.

How does GQ choose furniture sales?

All the products selected and featured by GQ’s editors are chosen carefully on the basis of quality, price, value for money and looks, and we include the brands we know and love as well as those which might be more specialist or niche. Our interiors guides are either written or edited by Daphne Bugler, our Senior Commerce Writer and expert in interiors and homeware.

A winner of the PPA’s 30 Under 30 Award for her work on the GQ Recommends team, Daphne leads on everything to do with Interiors at the magazine. Having worked at GQ since 2019, Daphne knows the GQ reader inside and out and spends her time tracking down the best pieces she knows they’ll all love. Her three years working directly in Interiors also means she knows the very best brands and has the inside scoop on what trends are actually worth your time. Read her guides from the best online furniture stores to the best mattresses for all of your home inspo.
