Although all of the above is true, there is something even more powerful that we need to clarify within ourselves: our purpose. When you know it, you can build everything towards that vision and gather as many tools as possible to make this purpose a reality. However, often people do not know what their purpose is. Therefore, I recommend loading their backpacks with as many tools as possible and discarding anything that does not align with this grand vision.

If you work at a corporation, it’s not just about seeing what kind of education your manager or the other line manager you aspire to be has. In this case, I recommend looking at what industry leaders have on their CVs regarding education. Additionally, asking mentors and university lecturers would be very helpful, as they will surely know the latest trends and the most valuable courses and programmes in a certain field. On the other hand, if you are an entrepreneur, I highly recommend taking specific technical courses related to the industry you are involved in. This way, you will be able to make better decisions.

Online learning is an incredible tool that has recently grown much more available and widespread. Focus on new and emerging skills in your industry in order to highlight that you are staying up to date when speaking to any potential employers or contacts. If possible, seek out courses that provide certifications as well because this will help paint a clear picture on your resume about your newly acquired skills.

I would add: plan this together with your family, as their support will be key to starting your studies again. Consider your current family situation and ensure things keep moving smoothly at home. If you have children, make sure they receive the same love and valuable time as they would if you weren’t studying. If you have a partner, ensure they are aligned with your goals and that this decision was made together and well-discussed.
