Your workplace culture is shifting. Are you ready to make a career change?

If your gut tells that things are changing in a way that is creating conflict, act on it. First confirm that your sense of the changes are correct. If they are then assess what you need in an organization to make an educated fact based change. I had been at a company for a long time and could sense that the strategy was going to put the company into a strained financial situation. I decided that a change was in order and made a career path change to better accomidate my work mix perferences. The change not only made my work life much more enjoyable, I was able to move away from the challenges and ownership change of the orginal employer.

Culture change involves questioning behaviors and values. If you notice that the narrative and behaviors have changed you may feel alienated, outsider-like. Such an exclusion often happens when there is a lack of synch between behaviors and values. Alienation can be also the outcome of a very strong narrative of "Us versus Them". In these vulnerable times reflect regularly. - How is this environment serving me? - Are my core values in synch with what I observe among my peers and leaders? - How much do I have compromise? - Do I feel appreciated for bringing a unique value and diverse thinking? - DO I WANT TO BELONG HERE?

I always go by using the 7D model! By implementing it you will be able to identify and assess the impact of it. I always recommend using this model!

Culture change involves questioning behaviors, values and possibly beliefs. Once you notice such a discomfort, enquire about it: - Where is it coming from? What are the roots of the shift? are there any assumptions and beliefs? - Does this involve significant compromises, or it requires to re-tell my story with slightly different highlights? - Are my core values at risk? Would that involve significant compromises? if so, am I willing to do so?

From experience, this is a crucial element: what are values and how we define them. Do our values change Do we compromise them You have to always be on top of things!

Vision is what keeps us all going to reach the ultimate goal: Trusting your instincts about where you will find fulfillment and success is important in navigating career decisions amidst cultural change.

In order to picture your future vision of yourself - and whether this fits the company vision - enquire about your own purpose. You probably have reconciled your skills and how well (or not) they align with the corporate mission. Knowing own purpose is important here. What is your calling? What makes you happy, or at least content? What is the reason for which you get off the bed every day? Compare that with the Company narrative. Do you see it matching or contradicting? Can you see yourself thriving here, or barely surviving?
