Building a network can be a relatively easy process. LinkedIn, for example, is a great way of connecting to like-minded individuals. However, it is building relationships that is most important. One option is to narrow down those you feel have most in common with your interests or focus. For example, when I was working in Glasgow in the UK as part of a global network of cities focusing on resilience, we networked with all but reached out and built special relationships with some cities which were post-industrial cities as they clearly had most in common with Glasgow. The result was we were able to work on other projects with some of these cities and created relationships which continue to this day.
