The standout sentence to me is 'where certain voices are not being heard' as a leader listen to your diverse team members, ask them in person for honest feedback and their lived experience. They are the experts, they live it! Aim just to listen and then, ask yourself. So what can I do about it? How can I help? What change can I make to improve their experience? Have the confidence to stand up for them and lead by example. Being critical of your own team makeup is also essential. If you only have 1 set of opinions is your team the best it could be? Are you running the risk of 'group think' or an Echo Chamber. If you do only have 1 makeup in the team why? What is discouraging or acting as a barrier to other sectors of society?

For me this is a real clincher. If you arent recruiting diversely there is probably a barrier to entry even if you cant see it. Small policies or organisational norms can to other groups actually be a big hurdle. Something as simple as shared or gender free bathrooms at work. Othering non-christian holiday periods as a normal practice. Supporting an LVBTQIA+ charity. Hosting an inclusive event, team building or social event within the organisation. All can be powerful tools to enhance appeal and recruit diversely.
