How can you create a standout pitch for content writing clients?

It’s absolutely important to research the client and what they do. But I have an unconventional approach. I focus on how to make the content could be better and what are the current gaps. And then I also focus on making an outline what can be done to fix those gaps. Everyone loves solutions. Just be humble and polite in the approach as client may not be very open to receive criticism.

We all know the simple fact that a content writing client will receive numerous pitches that will have a certain level of impact. If there is a lot of information, break it up so that it doesn’t look overwhelming and so it isn’t confusing. Also using software that analyzes tone tone and grammar errors helps, so that you can adjust your wording if needed.

I am not very good at making presentations. For some reason I have disliked the PPTs format. As a writer, I build content on Docs. Yes, not very fancy. But it’s an approach to convey the message that I focus on work rather than polishing something to sell. I don’t sell. I believe if the content or pitch (crisp, direct, and easy-to-read) is impactful, you’ll definitely get the attention. Again, focus on problem solving or provide a feasible outline for progress.

However, it’s very subjective and feel free to be creative.

Being human and being yourself is indeed important. Show that you are relatable and not too formal. Then, of course, it depends on the client and the context. It is also good to show that you speak from the heart combined with experience.

Bonus pitching tip: turn cold outreach into warm intros with networking. There is power in showing up in people’s feeds — if there is an outlet you're keen on pitching to, engage with the content created by people who work there. If they recognize your name (whether that’s from other work you’ve shared, or offering thoughtful feedback on their posts), it sets you a head and shoulders above the competition.

I have issues with the entire “content” writing industry. Imagine writing a thesis and referring to it as…content, a strategic business plan/proposal/email and calling it…content, a piece of beautifully layered literature or poetry…and calling it CONTENT.
