It's #LandDay at COP16! Each year, 12 million hectares of productive land are lost to desertification. Tackling this large-scale challenge requires collaborative, locally led solutions that can endure for generations. Fortunately, there is hope. Around the world, communities are coming together to combat #desertification and #revitalize landscapes. 🌳 In Niger, replanting acacia trees is regenerating ecosystems while bolstering local economies through the Gum Arabic trade. Meanwhile, South African farmers, in partnership with Living Lands are balancing livestock needs with wetland restoration, improving both soil fertility and water security. 💧 In Kenya, with support from Rainforest Alliance, tea and coffee farmers are adopting #regenerativeagriculture techniques—agroforestry, soil conservation, and water management—boosting productivity while restoring vital ecosystems. 🌅 In Western Australia, led by groups like Gondwana Link, traditional Indigenous practices like cool burning are being combined with modern techniques to restore native vegetation, #conserve water, and rehabilitate degraded #soils. Each of these stories shares a common message: collaborative action across sectors can be a powerful catalyst for change. By uniting diverse stakeholders and combining local knowledge with science and policy, these regions are transforming barren lands into resilient, thriving landscapes. Dive into the stories of these incredible efforts in the debut of our documentary short, Hope Springs: Stories of Resilience in Drylands. 🌍 An enormous thank you to all of our contributing and supporting partners, producers, and storytellers, including Commonland, Rainforest Alliance #LivingLandsSA, AlVelAl, La Junquera Farm, Afrikalive.TV, and UNDP. #GenerationRestoration #LandscapeResilience #UNCCDCOP16 #LandDay

From the forests of Brazil’s Pantanal to the Australian Outback, 2024 marked a critical year of exploration and reflection for 1000L as we continued to strengthen existing partnerships and build new connections in landscapes worldwide. We showcased inspiring stories of landscape innovation on a global stage and collaborated with partners to outline a new vision to forge our initiative’s future. We designed, tested, and delivered new learning resources focused on expanding literacy and expertise in integrated landscape management (ILM), and set the stage for a new generation of landscape leaders. 2025 is already shaping up to be a year of inspiration, leadership and collaboration, and we're excited to have you along for the ride! Dive into our 2024 reflections and what's in store for this year in our latest blog! https://lnkd.in/ePHjFTAm Stay updated on the latest from 1000L by signing up for our newsletter: https://lnkd.in/eEkxqXBf

Forest Leaders for Integrated Landscape Management: An origin story. In 2024, with the support of the International Model Forest Network and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), we began our ambitious three-year collaboration with Red Latinoamericana de Bosques Modelo to equip local landscape leaders across Latin and South America with tools, training, and resources on integrated landscape management. Over the last year, participants have developed new essential skills for effective #ILMleadership, including collaboration, strategic and financial planning, building landscape partnerships, advocacy, and more with support from learning modules developed in partnership with 1000 Landscapes For 1 Billion People. This video captures the inauguration of this inspiring program. We can't wait to see what this year has in store for these local leaders. Stay tuned! Thank you/Obrigado to Sauá Consultoria Ambiental for their hard work producing this video! #ILM #landscapePartnerships #bosquemodelo
